Had to laugh this morning.

The words atrocious, bizzards, 100mph winds were used this morning but don't worry the met office have issued a yellow warning.

Maybe if they included the words freezing, hell and over they might have upped it to amber.

Lovely breezy day here this morning, odd heavy rain/sleet shower

Still sleet here in Coatbridge. The light flickered a couple of times there but not sure if that has anything to do with the weather!

I do sometimes think that we'd need to have a 'Day After Tomorrow' type scenario before the Met Office would give us a proper warning.

Still, hopefully after 2014, we'll get more a more bespoke kilted weather service...whistling.gif

Very blawy here this morning and the sky to the south-west is looking threatening.

General model question. Whats the difference between the GFS ENS

13021006_0400.gif

and the GFS model

Reason I ask is that for next sunday I'm getting a ferry to the small isles and I would rather the top chart came to fruition!!!

My map last night underdid how early it would start to turn and hence undersold snow potential for the east coast. COLP east is hereby extended to all eastern areas.

Snow on and off this morning with a few good gusts of wind. Snow not lying at all. Mr Snowman looks very much terminal now. Poor fella is about gone !! The odd pile of snow outside left by the plough from our snow a couple of weeks ago.

Last gust brought some sleety gorple - if you can have such a thing. Now brightening up, looks like snow to about 100m - 200m, will have a better idea once I've taken a walk up the back.

Not expecting anything out of this pretty lame marginal snow at best and showers. Still rain in Glasgow!

Snow level dropping in the Pentlands. Been checking this on and off this morning. Earlier it was showing snow just on the very highest tops. Hopefully we'll see snow increasingly lower down throughout the day. As reported it's already turning to wet snow in South and SW Edinburgh.

EDIT: Just realised this links to the live image so hopefully it'll show more action through the day.

Blustery day here with intense squalls of hail every now and then and sunny spells in between. Tide has just turned so things might get a bit more lively as the tide rises. No ferries though.

Been windy here overnight and this morning with heavy hail showers highest gusts have reached around 72mph and at the moment are going at 65mph.

Several schools in the Western Isles have been closed and about 200 properties in Lewis and Harris have lost power.

CairnGorm Mountain ski centre said it was closed because of storm force to hurricane force winds.

The six schools shut in the Western Isles include Barra's Castlebay primary and secondary.

The Met Office said there could be could five to 10cm of snowfall, with some drifting, at lower levels.

Scientists at Lews Castle College UHI have been measuring what they described as "extreme" wave heights in the sea off Lewis.

Arne Vogler, a senior research engineer and principle investigator at the Hebridean Marine Energy Futures project, said hurricane force gusts had also been recorded.

He said: "Today we are measuring some extreme wave heights with averages of 12m and maximum waves of 20m.

"The sea is still building up and even higher waves are anticipated during the day.

Yayyyyy! For once I'm in the amber area of the warning - so dry and sunny it is then!

In seriousness though, it is looking pretty wild later, especially if the snow starts to stick - MetO going for 4-8 inches in the amber area with strong gales and drifting. Stay safe folks

Yeh it's hard to see it at the moment. Time will tell but until there is 3cm of snow on my drive I am not going to believe it!
