The radar is looking interesting for later. The sun is out, can't wait to see what we get!

Im puzzled, this isnt meant in a moany way but i genuinly dont understand so maybe someone with loads more knowledge than me knows the answer. When snow is forecast it just doesnt happen we dont even get rain so its not like they forecasted snow and it turned to rain, no it goes somewhere else. Now if rain in forecasted it happens almost without exception every time. So how do they forecast acuratly that its going to rain and it does so why is it harder if its snow?

Hi Sherrie

This may help you - http://forum.netweat...-forecast-snow/

Snow is more a a potion that needs to be concocted by mother nature. There are so many variables that if one of those variables change, you can have snow at a moments notice.

Some of the more experienced may be able to give a better description!!

More showers & downpours rather than storms I think.

Should get anything from rain, sleet, snow and hail later this afternoon.

Sferic activity will be very limited however, can't see much in the way of T&L today.

Estofex is more for large hail and low risk of tornadic activity. Still pretty good so early in the season.

That'll do me. Should get some interesting cloudscapes then. I'll post some pics later if I can.

Latest NAE continues to show shower activity coming up from the SW this afternoon;

post-12721-0-27796100-1363431918_thumb.j

With these falling as pretty much anything and everything;

post-12721-0-31308500-1363431961_thumb.jpost-12721-0-58091900-1363431967_thumb.j

A good few hundred joules of CAPE evident across the region later this afternoon;

post-12721-0-02208900-1363432042_thumb.jpost-12721-0-70838000-1363432054_thumb.j

With cloud tops rising and mild moist air aloft overriding the colder, drier air further down;

post-12721-0-43554800-1363432194_thumb.j

Should provide some interesting shower activity the afternoon. With low humidity values and moderated upper level lapse rates, as said before, electrical activity is likely to be very limited, if any at all.

There can be a very long explanation for that but i'm on my phone. Most of the time, the UK's precip actually begins as snow. It usually changes form as it falls through many different temperature layers, if all the temperature layers are within the realm of -4 to -5C then snowflakes will stay as snowflakes until they hit the surface, that becomes a different story. A small difference in elevation or landscape can effect snowfall. That was my simple version of it. lol

thankyou for the explanation

Very heavy squall here - high winds, heavy rain and flakes of snow as well. Talk about four seasons in one day - was lovely a couple of hours ago.

Good afternoon folks! Cracking day out there? Depending on where you are of course .. laugh.png

31mm of rain fell in 24 hours here, 16mm yesterday and 15mm this morning, it topped my pond up nicely. smile.png

Currently sunny spells here and a temp of 9.6°C

There's lots of cumulus around at the moment, and the odd cumulus congestus.

The radar is certainly looking good in the south west, the showers are really beefing up in a few places and a few sferics are appearing too.

It would be nice if we got some thundery downpours here! I hope Dartmoor doesn't kill off or reduce the intensity of those showers too much.

Kicking off well in the SW, more than might have been expected perhaps, but we are at peak insolation (?) time right now.

High Res model guidance has shower activity developing and travelling further NE over much of our region until dusk tonight, so plenty of time for further developments yet.

Sun feels warm now, should add fuel to the fire.
