Guys it's gone from sleet to wet snow hear in the Cotswolds , given the fact it was forecast to be rain in the mids to begin with this surely bodes well , especially how far south I am , but given my elevation I'm expecting some snow at least !

Great reports of hearing snow falling further south than here. It's going to be a long night watching this radar develop.

Green laser pen fired into the air shows some little bits of something starting to fall in the beam.

You can get arrested for that!

2.1c, should be closer to 1c by the time precip arrives. Very good news to see snow reports quite far south in the midlands. Looking very good everyone smile.png

I for one will be staying up as late as I can manage. Hopefully there will be enough snow to prevent me going to work, otherwise i'm going to be very tired tommorow ! :p

Not much to add really. Has started as plain snow here as well...not a touch of sleetiness to it.

Wouldn't it be great once the heavy ppn reaches here we see/hear some thunder snow. Never witnessed it before.

Light sleet/snow here - hard to tell exactly in the light of the lamppost - not settling anywhere though..... yet. Just needs some intensity I reckon :-)

would be great, but thundersnow is more associated with convection/cold fronts

Mainly snow (bit of sleet mixed in started here in Solihull 10 mins ago.

Still too warm to settle, but the temp is now falling away steadily.

This is very impressive as the 18:00 news said oit would start as rain and then turn to snow at midnight.

Also looking at the Meteo radar (see above for links) the sleet line is staying 50 miles south of here and not moving North with the precipitation band.

And our temperature is plummeting in Malvern, it's 1.3oC now, snow's starting to stick to cars, still light at the mo, but definitely snow falling, not sleet. Lift off, indeed! :D Best of luck everyone, I hope this is a white out all round. :D
