Yellow Warning of Rain for London & South East England :

Oxfordshire, Hampshire, West Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes, Reading & Wokingham

Yellow Warning of Rain for East of England :

Hertfordshire, Central Bedfordshire, Bedford, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough

The public should be aware that persistent and often heavy rainfall spreading from the southwest has the potential to cause some difficult driving conditions through Tuesday.  Surface water flooding is likely on stretches of the road network, and in places strong winds will lead to considerable spray.

Valid from:

0800 on Tue 14 May 2013

Valid to:

2359 on Tue 14 May 2013

A developing small-scale low pressure system is expected to run northeastwards across southern and central areas of England during Tuesday and Tuesday night. An arc of heavy and persistent rain is expected to form on the northern and western flank, with anything from 20 to 60 mm falling in the space of 6 to 12 hours. The ground is relatively dry, and this will help guard against too many impacts, but road travel is likely to be inconvenienced locally. Strong winds may also combine with the heavy rainfall in places.

One other aspect of note is that it will be particularly cold through the afternoon and evening where rain is heaviest, even with the chance of seeing some  ohmy.png wet snow doh.gif in a few places. Its taking the p  iss really.

At this stage there is considerable uncertainty in many of the details, and it is likely that the warning area will be refined and reduced in size as the event approaches.

Met Office wrong again today, they said no showers here til late evening rush hour (ha!). They also failed to mention the near gale blowing all day. What a load of crap, 14C the max here, should be topping 20C by now. If we have another 2012 that's it! Emigration!!! :)

To be honest, there's one huge fillip for me with this current weather and it's that it's happening this side of Summer. smile.png I was out earlier and with the wind was blowing strongly, bending branches, together with splashes of rain in the dark, it almost felt autumnal. However it is not even Summer yet :) Okay, the Summer might end up being dross like the last couple, but optimism is a good thing and I'll have some. cool.png

If this weather was happening in late August, I'd be way more depressed.smile.png

Hopefully lots of barbecue and thunderstorm options to come (although not at the same timebiggrin.png )

Despite being nearly mid may, I am glad we're seeing this potential extreme weather in the form of torrential rain and yes I'm saying it, ''hill snow'' now rather than the middle of July.

I know its cold and depressing, but Wednesday looks to be promising with some hail and thunderstorms. I do love the days when we are slap bang under a filled out low and watching the sferics explode like acne on a teenagers face!

As long as it isn't the most boring setup ever i.e stiff NNE winds, cool, cloudy and miserable as sin with no convection or warmth whatsoever, I'm not too fussed really. Give it some time, and I'm sure we will get what we are all awaiting, which is a good prolonged spell of heat and a good series of barbecue evenings, with some isolated severe storms being sparked off here and there, can't beat a bit of that!

I am a man of my word, and I'm still sticking with my prediction of a very warm spell at the end of June or in July.

I'm also in Ibiza for 2 weeks in September, so I'm pretty confident I'll see some cracking storms at some point out there, as that is when it becomes prime time for some Mediterranean el-classico thunderstorms!

Anyway, stay safe everyone for tomorrow, as it looks like being really quite hellish out there. Ill keep you posted from the South Coast on the wind situation, as there is forecasts of some severe winds potentially along E Sussex, Kent and perhaps Hampshire.

JP I feel for you. It must be depressing writing those reports when it should be at least mild at this time of year here in the south east. I'm pleased I can only read basic charts and cant do forecasting, I'd depress myself very quickly and give growing my fruit and veg.

Morning all!

A couple of heavy isolated showers coming into work, you know the ones, double speed windscreen-wiper jobs.

Looks like a dry spell for a few hours and then it really chucks it down latter:

I think we'll hear about in the SW region first, then as the low transfers across the country it could be our turn, just in time for the evening rush hour :(
