Started nice but cold now though winds picked up and rain is falling (a sign of things to come perhaps)

Looks like October is going to pass without a frost up here.  They've had one down in Glenrothes but it needs to be a degree or two cooler still before we'll get one on the hill.  Last year we'd already had frosts, subzero temperatures and falling snow :(

Just been woken up by a series of very bright  flashes to the west with clear starry skies here . Just had a look at the radar to see a band of  torrential rain  to the west with lots of lightning srtikes on the lightning detector map. I have an explanation. Currently 5.5c  .

NL, we had a great thunderstorm here in the wee small hours! This was followed by very heavy hail showers and our power went off sometime during the night too. We've just had another very heavy hail shower coming out of nowhere. It was clear a wee while ago and then suddenly hail the size of huge gobstoppers started falling. A grand end to October! Just checked the lightning detector map and it shows more Kerash, Bang and Wallop heading to Skye. Could be a lively morning!

No thud or blunder here overnight.  Nice morning, milder than yesterday, and doesn't look like it's about to bugger off downhill like yesterday.  Bloody hell, sheep are hefted aren't they?  Trying to move them on is like trying to keep the tides out.  Or the rain off.

One boom of thunder here just as the school came out at 3.50 followed by horizontal hail - back to just hissing it down now lol.  Kids are like drowned rats.

There was a rainbow here about 5 mins ago. Lovely pale light blue sky overhead moving east and beautiful purple/pink colours reflecting off the back edge of the rain cloud to the east. Around an hour ago it was quite wild with heavy, driving rain and some fairly strong gusts of wind.

First really wintery feeling day with sharp showers, towering cloudscapes and a blustery wind.A maximum of 6.5c  added to the seasonal feel. Hills must have got a  reasonable cap of snow today but have been too cloud covered to see.

Second day in a row with glorious sun, only light breezes and feeling very mild out. Second day in a row to turn, mid-afternoon, to darkness and heavy showers, cold and the wind blustery from all directions, strong gusts and cutting right through you. Remind me tomorrow to nip out to the shops in the morning rather than leaving it til teatime, eh? :p
