The last few days here have wandered aimlessly between a mix of fog, mist, and low cloud. Utterly depressing....I hope the Atlantic can blast this muck away this weekend.

If wet and windy weather is a preference then you will be happy from next week. I must say, on the basis that the pattern has been unfavourable for the type of seasonal snowy weather many of us want on here, then the quiet weather with some frost and sunshine has been quite welcome, and the thought of rain and strong winds from the atlantic is far from appealing to me.

But each to their own of coursePosted Image

Not my preference. The tracks around here are almost impassable due to the mud and stupid farmers who drive 10 ton tractors up and down them churning up the ground. I keep nagging my husband about Canada.

Even on a grey day it's better, and not really all that cold if there's been cloud cover overnight — south of Castlegar it's -6ºC at 9 am on top of a mountain pass.

Don't they have ski lifts in the Troodos Mountains? Hopefully you should see something. Posted Image

Hi Steve, yes they do, and a really ropey ski hire shack (literally); the snow fell to not far outside of Limassol in the end last night, which is very unusual - all the Cypriots are posting snowball fight pics on Facebook, just to rub it in! http://cyprus-mail.com/2013/12/11/communities-left-without-power-as-bad-weather-grips-cyprus/

Back in Surbiton, it's damp and murky tonight after the clear, frosty evenings of the past few nights. Hmmm....

Ventured out to the bin a short while ago, and it is damp and cool out, but no frost (not that we have had any this week apart from one morning that I can think of) and fog free too, but some cloud and breeze has picked up a bit.

My cough just seems relentless again tonight, over the last few days it has got a bit better, until today and runny nose is back too, it is like the cold has started anew (grrrrr!), two more days of work and then a day off (yippee!) before the new working week starts :(

Oh and think I may have found a leak in a pipe fitting in the bathroom (not sure as it could be condensation), so tucked some loo roll round the pipe as a kind of 'litmus paper' to check and will monitor it (just what I need a week and a half from holiday shutdown in the UK)

Oh so would I . I found this From 1400 into the 19th century, there were 24 winters in which the Thames was recorded to have frozen over at London; if "more or less frozen over" years (in parentheses) are included, the number is 26: 1408, 1435, 1506, 1514, 1537, 1565, 1595, 1608, 1621, 1635, 1649, 1655, 1663, 1666, 1677, 1684, 1695, 1709, 1716, 1740, (1768), 1776, (1785), 1788, 1795, and 1814.[18]The Thames freezes over upstream, beyond the reach of the tide, more often - above the weir near Windsor for example. The last great freeze of the Thames upstream was in 1963.

Really sorry you are so poorly Jax. I have a friend going through the same thing and has been for weeks.  If it's the same bug it's awful.  Get better soon.

Erm...it seems to be getting warmer here. 8.4c

Ok looking out at the road tonight it does look festive with all the Christmas lights twinkling through the thick fog out there. Sounds like we could get some rain tomorrow awaiting John's updates.
