Thanks, i think you are correct just checked again on google, any idea if this level should get any snow over the next few days?

yes! My folks are by Kingussie and ended up with a few inches this week - which has since melted. But they are expecting more tomorrow, so I would say yes Posted Image

Maximum today was 9.4C at 00.02 and currently 3.5C/+2.3C (-1.0C/hr).

Rainfall total yesterday was 23.1mm with a further 8.6mm today (23.45mm/hr at 19.38) so far and on that note I observed that the Tay was very high from my vantage point on the Friarton Bridge this morning.

I am not really up on chart reading Hiya but i think you said in a post yesterday? that there wasn't really a tight enough gradient and this would  allow pressure to spread instead of being squeezed?

18z continues the march to initiation of this low on the Jet.

18z run is packed with extremes.

Also of note is how this systems stops and anchors before continuing it's exit beyond the North of the country.

Yes pretty much.  I stand to be corrected, but to me apart from the very low pressure the weather won't be anything of note.

Was up on the roof last night doing the same thing.

Gutter choked full of leaves and needles at a key point allowed some water to go up and over seals to drip a little back into the house. Wind assisted probably.

Thanks, Hiya and Blitzen, for that chat - so it's how tight the lines are, how rapidly it's altering, that makes the difference between "ooh, how interesting, a near-record low pressure system" versus "aaaaaarrrrggghhhhh"?

Couple of wind charts from the 18z. mean speeds and gusts, all depends on location I guess. I would think 70-90mph gusts could safely fall into the serious category. Whereas, other areas may experience what we would class as a proper day of gales, vs real storm force winds and wonder what the fuss is about.

Even with the last couple of systems bombing into the NWest of Scotland, there have been variations in the orientation of the low, both with projected track and also when in situe, in a similar manner this one will be watched closely right up until arrival.

Well, put it this way, if Monday/Tuesday turns out to be an  "ooh, how interesting" - Friday/Saturday may turn out to be an "aaaaaarrrrggghhh!"  Don't think yer gonnie knit yersel' oot o' this ain BMW!Posted Image

Thanks, lorenzo - when I try to look at the charts, I'm still too unsure/ignorant to know which ones to look at, so it's really useful having you post those two to look at and see just what they indicate.
