you could be right for many in scotland but looks severe for N/E Scotland

A bit of IMBY in my statement yes, around Peterhead it does look quite bad.

Gusts over 80 mph I would put down as serious.  We'll see if the Tay bridge gets closed, which is supposed to be at 80 mph but a couple of times when there has been a lot of hype about a storm they close it as a precaution.

I'm bored of wind and rain now, can we get some snow please?

Heavy showers here too recently. One earlier in the evening turned to wet snow up in the NW of the city but back at home more like rain. Currently 3C and cloudy.

Yes pretty much.  I stand to be corrected, but to me apart from the very low pressure the weather won't be anything of note.

A 150 mile shift of the low to the NNW and you'll be eating those words!

Looks nasty, that's what happened in January 2012, the met office issued a red warning that day.

Any doubt about this not having impact - have a look through this page.

Genuinely hope we get something less severe than some of the ensembles within this pack. e.g

What time is the wind likely to be worst on xmas eve in the east? Family coming north from Broughty Ferry that day.

the NASA model already has the next storm deeper and further north than the GFS 18z at the same timeframe as well so we could take a good hit from that as well if it does go further north

They all tend to agree on something nasty.

For years I've watched these deep lows (albeit not as low as these cretins) churn up the Atlantic, hit the western isles, missing most of the mainland and then head to Faroes onwards etc, thinking to myself: one day a system like this will eventually hit more populated areas.

I've never seen monsters on charts, repeatedly on each run / ensemble for many days now, show like this before.

Watching every run is crucial now. It's exciting to see systems like this develop, but in reality nobody wants a sub-930mb low winging by to our immediate north west.

Interesting!

I was working but my dad said there was thunder & lightning in a shower about 19.15.

I posted last week that I had never seen lighting in Scotland at night or in winter until last Saturday night. That's twice in two weeks now!

Well I suppose I didn't see it.
