The SW coast looks a good place to be over the next few days if you like thundery weather. First of many potentially thundery nights tonight.

Gusty here, and just had a 30 minute powerout. Apparently lots of power cuts across the Weat Midlands.

Apparently a storm just to the south of here last night but didn't wake up myself.

I've been a bit busy today, fishing.. but, I expected a bit more activity about tonight/tomorrow's prospects for southern areas. I tweeted about it this morning. ELT's look very cold, good for hail development with that low pressure close by.

A lonely little one! There should be increased activity Sunday in to Monday, particularly in the north and west.

It actually produced a couple cracks of thunder. They were quite distant, however.

A couple of flashes the way to work in Clitheroe this morning during a pretty violent sleet and hail storm - saw the CuNb looming while approaching Skipton and then drove straight through the storm - I was a bit frazzled by the time I got to work as there were a few moment of near zero visibility in almost complete darkness - not my favourite driving conditions...eeek!

Looks like our secondary low just dropped 3mb during the last hour! How accurate are the surface pressure charts anyway, where do the pressure readings come from, buoys/ships ?

sure i heard thunder as i woke up briefly during the early hours, sure it was not the wind, sounded more distant and grumbly, any sferics over this area last night ?

It would appear that it was thunder that you heard, Ian. The lightning detector picked up some strikes in your area between 05:00 and 06:00.

that explains it scott, but it was about 1.30ish,  indicated by the pink crosses, must have been a bit more later in the night (blue crosses)  is there a link to that detector

Yes, the lightning archive, though you will need Netweather Extra to view it:
