Ice streaming heading on into the Peaks from the Irish Sea, already some 10cm here and continually building. Buxton is effectively cut-off for the time being as gritters were unable to get past Dove Holes due to the A6 icing over. Definitely a stay at home day watching the RADAR until tomorrow comes for some better weather photography wise.

Until then i'm just enjoying the show

To call what we've had in Preston overnight and this morning "snow" is a bit of an insult really.  There is a slight covering of hail/snow on the grass and slush on the roads etc. But i suppose it did snow so thats the 3 year drought broken at least.

 

This really was the ideal set up for us to get snow here, looks like the wind modification of the temps was just too great for us here at least.

Would you prefer the rain I've seen?

I'm so glad I'm not in work today, can't imagine the A6 in Stockport being iced over, it's a nightmare at the best of times!

Looks like we are slight to far north to be caught under it for a reasonable amount of time.

Wooah coming down all sorts of heavy in Manchester now!

It's like something out of the 1980s out there, it's just not letting up. Nothing even on the roofs at 8 and suddenly by 8.40 a covering and whenever it looks like dying down. off it goes again. Biggish flakes and visibility down to less than half a mile.

It's really bad in st Helens it's dark and snow is constant. I hope this lasts until tonight and that low is snow then we could be on the road to all types of special.

Net wx forecast goes for ,more organised snow this evening/tonight:

 

 

This evening and overnight, remaining windy with sleet and snow showers continuing in many places. A more organised band of sleet and snow looks to move down across Scotland, before pushing down across northern England, The Midlands, SE England and East Anglia in the early hours of Friday, bringing further accumulations in the north
