Hi Daniel...Halo huge here in Biggin Hill.  Maybe cloud is interfering....it's pretty amazing :-)!

Hi scrat (: it might be due to light pollution, there is some wispy cloud so you may be correct.

Isn't that surface airflow though, rather than upper?

Looks it to me, total different ball game !!

What a twist of fate the 500 wind vectors and 700 wind vectors all move in a SW direction roughly along the m4 corridor , hence the shift as the band moved southwards , 50 miles North / South the winds are in s more northerly direction

That's called buggers luck

What is it about the M4 corridor. Rain always to the south of it from a channel low

But none of them arrows are pointing SW, which is the direction the precip is moving. So can't rely on these wind directions I wouldn't have thought

There is a difference between surface wind and 850hpa

It's the 700hPa wind vectors you want to view when tracking PPN, surface wind direction doesn't give an accurate enough picture. 700hPa shows why the band is moving SW

I said hours ago that this would miss London to the west BUT that was meant to a bit of a joke! Next time I will keep my big mouth shut.

Sorry.

Hahahahaha! I don't think you have that much influence...

Think that is pretty much the end for me, for now anyway. Anything coming off the wash is heading straight to Peterborough so enjoy. Might not be a snow day tomorrow but watching this has sure been fun. Hope everyone gets a little bit tonight  :)

This is an example of the difference between surafce wind and those 700hpa that Daniel points out.

No light pollution in Biggin, esp looking south Daniel. Ice crystals in high clouds mate

Back garden just now

Nice

This is quite a stunning photo of the moon dog ~ you can quite clearly see Jupiter too.

Started snowing here much earlier than expected. Very light flakes now need some of the heavier stuff on the radar to get down here quick! Very pleased that it's come so much earlier than expected whilst I'm still awake. :D

London is just killing the ppn mate, while the stuff hitting East Anglia will affect those to the East of the meridian I reckon.

I seriously hope I am wrong!!

No good if you live in East London eastwards though. Very poor forecast from the Met Office/BBC. How can they get things so wrong with regards to the direction of the prep?
