Overcast this morning, thinning slowly. It's kinda bright out there now, enough brightness to push the temp up to 19.3°C

Muggy and cloudy here, not sure we'll get anything wet and/or thundery today but definitely feels like it.

The low cloud is refusing to budge which is a pity as looking at the Camborne 00z sounding we could be looking at temps of 18-19C. Still it feels quite warm as there is little wind.

Hate the good damn weather sometimes, literally 5 minutes before the red arrows were due to start their display, low cloud/sea fog decided to roll in and they couldn't display.

The BBC forecast for 1am tonight (actual is 12:35am) is one of the worst I've seen - especially if you live in South Wales. Some of the more scattered precipitation predictions further north are almost spot-on, so it's as if the YTS trainee was working their way down the map from north to south, but fell asleep when they reached the South Midlands:

Pouring down for the last half an hour after showery/drizzly rain beforehand. I am expecting 10mm to half an inch t be in my gauge, however the clearance should begin fairly soon. A good soaking for the garden before what looks set to be another period of warm dry conditions. Only 13.0c at present but on the other hand it's calm which has been a rarity.

13.3°C and overcast after 6.7mm of rain.

The BBC and MetO showed light rain coming in around 4am, it was actually raining by 11pm, so only 5 hours out. :)

Clearance just about here now.  4.9mm to 09.00GMT, but a couple of heavier showers in the last hour which will have added to that.  Soaked the garden perfectly and negated the necessity to water it for a few days!

When Ian mentioned on his Points West forecast that Wiltshire and Gloucestershire may start the day with cloud which was mainly affecting Eastern England I wondered what the sky may look like this morning. Well at 06.30 you could almost draw a line N-S through the area with extensive Altocumulus on the Eastern half and clear blue sky to the Western half.

Lovely day with half and half blue sky/ flattened cumulus, a gentle breeze and just above 20c.

That's interesting, Andy.  About six this morning, my OH roused from sleep, looked out of the window (curtains and windows both open!), nudged me into slight wakefullness and said, "Look at that line between the dark clouds and the clear blue."  It was very distinct and would have warranted a photo if it had been at seven and not six!!!  As it was I turned over and went back to sleep.

Cracking day here too, very warm in the sun this afternoon, almost touching 23°C

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
