Chucking it down in Bedford, got a nice puddle outside the house.

The light and patchy overnight rain is just clearing South Suffolk now.

Total accumulation since last evening 4.2mm. post-20040-0-95760400-1430036545_thumb.j

The GFS 2m temp chart suggesting 7c at 08.00 this morning was spot on. The forecast for 14.00 is 9c, so a much cooler feel versus the 18c yesterday. Overnight lows suggesting a wide-spread ground frost tonight. Probably an air frost for certain locations.

Bits and pieces of rain, I think we got unlucky yesterday with regard to the showers, the area with the maximum instability crossed s at the wrong time (later evening) so areas further north got hit instead of us. Oh well moving on.

We will see how the shower activity holds up this week, low teens for the temperatures so whilst cooler it won't be cold enough for anything wintry. The exception might be today under a large amount of cloud.

Grey and rather cold at 9C, no rain though.

Isn't that just typical. After a dull, grey, cool, lifeless day with little wind and a maximum temp a smidge over 10c here in Hadleigh, the sun finally manages to break through at 17.50 this evening. Which makes for a more cheerful evening (hoorah!), but suggests the GFS overnight lows are looking on the money to bring a wide spread ground frost to rural areas.

Ground is bone dry - some much needed moisture overnight :)

The rain was very welcome yesterday, can actually dig the ground now and plant stuff, once this snowy spell of weather passes through of course  Had a top temperature of 11.4c today, might get down to zero tonight :cold: Northern blocking, where were you when we wanted you? :nonono:

You can add some urban areas to that too, frost on the ground and on the rooftops here.

Sunny start here, looks mainly dry for today and tomorrow according to the BBC weather site, rather goes in the face of those calling exciting cloudscapes and thunderstorms.

You're right Captain. Just watched Carol on the Beeb and it looks like some parts of EA got down to -2c. The min in my back garden only managed +0.5c, but rooftops here also covered in frost. The sunshine raising temps quickly now. +4.5c at 07.30.

Morning gang,

No frost here overnight what so ever and the sun is out.

Funny cold spell this.. Thought we were due 5-7 degrees days, snow showers, hail, cold bit bitting north wind.. Oh wait

12C here now, wouldn't be surprised to see a 15C somewhere in this region this afternoon, looking at the 850s say it all really, the coldest air just gets eaten away. Decent fresh day though with just some fair weather cloud around.

The JAMSTEC is going for a warmer than normal  summer and autumn and a milder than normal winter for the eastern side of the UK.  The north eastern side of the United States will be shockingly cold yet again. If this ends up correct, then we are locked into a pattern, does this mean we can expect another average winter? :unknw:  Of course you can't forecast that far out, but it is interesting to see that pattern repeating itself yet again. Back to today, it was dry sunny and really not as cold as I thought it would be. The garden is looking nice and green. Isn't next winter supposed to be the start of the mini ice age? :whistling:

That mini ice age has been coming for the past 5 winters.

When it does arrive in 50 years time, we will still probably just get sleet out of it.

Well we got a light shower caused by a sea breeze convergence. Sums up this "cold" spell to be honest.

12C was the high here. The high across the south east was 13C, whilst cooler than we have experience, we are nowhere near cold territory.

13.9 at Hampton Waterworks.  It certainly didn't feel like there was an Arctic blast here. That's not saying it wasnt' cold with wintery precipitation  in the Highlands, but I do wish the media would start valuing accuracy over sensationalism as far as forecasts go.

No frost here overnight. Lowest temp 3.5c, which is not as low as I would have thought and probably down to the gentle breeze keeping air layers mixed up. But what a bootiful morning!

No Frost here overnight...

I will bang on one last time.. But this has to be the "best" "cold spell" I think I can remember.. After posters showing charts with snow even down here.. We all knew that wouldn't happen..

This is what happens when you get cold in April..May... The nights and mornings are cold brefily before the sun comes out.. Granted, if there was cloud it would be FREEZING!!!! But theres not so typical spring day again :p

ENJOY!

Wednesday afternoon looks interesting for the SE.

Pretty much although only small convective potential (K) one would expect widely scattered storms (TT) Lots to go wrong, DP's look too low, and LI is effectively neutral. Could be some hefty showers about, though.

Not much to say about today, fine with sunny spells and some fair weather cloud. The temperature is up to 13C.

This afternoon's GFS 12z showing a 30% chance of a storm for the very SE of our patch on Wed afternoon. But for Thurs afternoon is showing a much wider risk, embracing virtually the whole of our Region. I quite fancy a rumble or two! :D
