We had a heavy shower here earlier, though the worst stayed north of here. The sun is now out.

We had a very heavy shower at about 0445, the rain was bashing the windows so hard, the wind was growling and in heavier parts of the shower, smell hail was present.

Sunshine, showers, blustery. I quite enjoy days like this. Refreshing! The radar from 08.15 shows the shower that gave me a spell of heavy rain this morning (3.9mm), now moving out into the North Sea. The far SE corner looks like it's currently being hit by a very heavy shower moving through. And that's a more organised band of showers currently over Wales and the SW that's heading for our Region for this afternoon.

Agreed! I'm loving this cool, blustery showery weather too. It's only early May and we have months of hot, humid, sticky onions a head, especially in London. Another heavy shower approaching, getting dark. :yahoo: 13.6c. Torrential rain now, mixed with pea sized hail. The temperature went from 13.6c to 8.9c in a few minutes. :cold::crazy:

Looks like the expected showery rain will only affect the north of the region, elsewhere there is a line of heavy rain moving through the capital and the surrounding areas. Looks like we will get hit here in Chelmsford.

Had some heavy showers around today, they probably feel worse because of the squally wind. But feels pleasant in the sun.

Bright spells here to start, it is quite cloudy but hopefully this should improve during the day.

It does look increasingly likely that we will see the warmest day of the year next Tuesday, temperatures possibly getting to the magic 80F mark quite widely going by the temperature predictions. GFS is going for 26C and the ECM and UKMO look like warmer charts potentially.

There is also the chance of thundery showers on Tuesday afternoon, though the highest risk looks like being north east England.

Treating the good lady, Mrs Bogman to afternoon tea and crumpets in the smoke Tuesday, so couldn't be better.

A few thunderstorms around this afternoon, with a cluster of lightening strikes around Derby and Nottingham and through north Norfolk and The Wash. The rainfall radar shows the storms responsible.

Rainfall Radar 14.00 post-20040-0-36194300-1431010372_thumb.j Lightening Strikes at 15.45 post-20040-0-15531900-1431010383_thumb.j

A very heavy shower here late this morning, but this afternoon the action seems to be in northern half of EA.

Edit: The lightening strikes are for the 2 hour period up to 15.45.

A fairly pleasant afternoon here with sunny spells and temperatures reaching a high of 18C.

Those showers are probably coinciding with the shallow shortwave trough slowly moving through the Midlands.

Been dry here with some decent sunny spells, but I see high level cloud approaching.

I've been doing some thorough research (five minutes, watch Netweather TV :whistling: )  into the 500 millibar height charts of past moderate El Nino years, to see what kind of a summer we could expect. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your weather preferences, the patters show that during moderate El Nino years, summers have been Atlantic driven, with a stronger than normal jet over the UK and low pressure frequently over the British Isles. This ties in with the Beijing Climate Model prediction for the summer/autumn months for 2015. So we can expect a soggy one. Back to now, it's sunny and warm, 17.5c

Some nice clouds around today, so not surprised there was some storms about, but as usual, no thunder here but a reasonable shower. Warm in the sun but still windy.

Hope Tuesday next week gives me something.

Evening all,

Tuesday is continuing to show something fiery more akin to a hot July day. Associated with the heat comes some energy to tap into, therefore possible fuel for storms and the like.

post-19153-0-92653600-1431028562_thumb.j

Going on above I think somewhere in our region may get close to 30.0*C but not quite.

Unfortunately it does not look like it will sustain - with westerlies and cooler air trying to dent any warmth.

It is lovely out there, Warm, muggy, cloudy, a bit of rain to cool things down and the wind has dropped to almost nothing. Love these kind of days. Just add thunder for a perfect day, but 2/3 isn't bad.

We have had some sunshine today, it has clouded over now though. A maximum temperature of 15C.

Next week looks a little underwhelming with downgrades in the semi-reliable timeframe.

Hi Dami. An interesting personal preference on weather type there! Now my maths might be wrong, but isn't that 7 weather types you've mentioned? Anyway, I'm with you on 3 of them, but I'm not saying which!!

I've not really studied the charts tonight, but from a quick glance it looks as if the really warm 'early summer' temps for the start of next week get shunted away to our east very quickly. :( Hopefully the east of the region can still enjoy one day into the low, even mid 20'sC for Monday.

This evening has been a drab affair, as captured by the rainfall radar at 18.00:  post-20040-0-52878200-1431115387_thumb.j

Gloriously sunny in London and in the mid/high-teens in the afternoon after a grey start in High Wycombe. A good day for lurking on the back platform of an elderly bus.

From a weather perspective, I thought the best part of today was the end, with a lovely sunset:

The next few days looking very enjoyable. Current forecasts suggest it turns more unsettled and wet by Thurs. GFS 850 and Max Temp charts:

The temperature reached 18C yesterday and with the sun coming out during the afternoon it felt reasonably pleasant.

Conditions look decent enough for most of this week, though a tad disappointing we have lost that plume which could have seen temperatures push into the 80F range.

Could hit 20/21C today if the sun makes an appearance. Perhaps 23/24C tomorrow.

The cloud has burnt off now. Temperatures already in the high teens.
