Well the sun has been out most of the day, up to 18C so not too bad for mid-May.

Point proven today.. Beautiful day :)

20C reached in places, you don't need spectacular charts to get some warmth. In fact the cool and unsettled period could be short lived next week with low heights re-organising over Greenland and the Azores high pushing back in, no summer heat expected but some pleasant spring warmth could be on the cards to finish the month.

Cloudy start here, looks like we could see a possible squall line develop on this cold front, so the risk of torrential rain, gusty winds and hail. Not much chance of seeing some big showers though today, that will be for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Temperatures today between 12C and 15C.

Indeed I would agree EURO4 picked up on it yesterday be interesting to see if we can get a rumble from it to

EDIT: Outbreaks of light rain initially. This morning the rain will become heavier and persistent from the west, possibly locally very heavy with temporary gusty winds, before clearing away eastwards from Kent by mid afternoon. Sunny spells and isolated showers follow. Maximum Temperature 16 Â°C.

Great post Surrey. The squall line is now showing up nicely on the radar:

Tomorrow looking like some beefy showers for the afternoon. Will they be thundery? The CAPE & LI chart showing (at best) -2, which on the LI scale is "slightly unstable air, chance of a thunderstorm". GFS suggesting around a 30% chance.

The lovely thing about days like these is that you can admire them from indoors. I don't mind being out in the rain sometimes, but the squally nature of it makes it more enjoyable from the comfort of your home.

The first squall line (shown in charts posted earlier this morning) is now approaching my patch at 12.30. Interestingly, a second squall line has also formed and can be seen approaching Oxford/Milton Keynes/Bedford.

The second squall is just passing over me in MK.

Nothing exciting in it (glad I'm indoors though).

Well in the end the first squall line was breaking up as it approached and needless to say my location was in a 'gap' as it passed! Nothing!

The second line has just passed and had a little bit more to it. Very gusty and a few minutes of heavy rain. But even with that, total rainfall today has only amounted to 3.6mm and from the radar it doesn't look as if much more is likely. Sunny spells now and 13.3C.

Well, today was a bit of a mixed bag. We had lots of drizzle in the early morning with next to none wind. Then the wind got up by around 1000 with some heavier rain. That continued to around 1300, then the rain stopped and it turned into a day with sunny spells, however the wind is still a prominent feature. Hopefully a rumbe or two tonight or tomorrow...

Nice blue sky with some promising looking cumulus floating about. A bit breezy, nothing like yesterdays wind. Temp 10.6
