Very intense showers suddenly erupted over lincs and Norfolk! Sea breeze convergence zone maybe?

Then what is happening around Ipswich at the moment? The models aren't always correct...

Nice day today, however cloud increasing in the afternoon with a few dribs and draps of rain.

I'm not sure why that was said to be honest?! The models were clearly showing possibilities in East Anglia.

LOL!! I watched the Look East forecast on the Beeb this morning and it said "light scattered showers". Well I've just got home absolutely soaked through after being caught out in the thunderstorm that hit the Ipswich area around 16.30 this afternoon. Half a dozen flashes of lightning and hail measuring up to half inch across. Yesterday I recorded a mere 3.6mm of rain, whilst today's storm gave 9.3mm.

Here's the storm, which I've highlighted with a pointer: post-20040-0-02502900-1432143491_thumb.j

I got home too late to capture the Lightning Detector chart of 16.30, but here it is at 17.45 and you can see the lightning to the east of Ipswich by then (I'm west of Ipswich). The lightning rate was 12 strikes per hour, so well down on yesterday, but for me it was the "surprise factor" as this wasn't forecast.

Apart from a light shower in Cambridge, not much of interest though the east of the region did well by the looks of it.

Sunny and cool! There was an earthquake near Sandwich this morning. :shok: Anyone feel it, or live in Sandwich? 4.2 magnitude :help:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-32840579

Slept through it too. After some early cloud the sun has managed to break through now.

Are there any survivors from this crippling east Kent shaker? :help::p

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Kent, the British Geological Survey (BGS) has said.

The tremor originated near Sandwich at a depth of 15km (9.5 miles) underground at 02:52 BST, it reported.

Residents in areas including Margate, Canterbury and Southend-on-Sea in Essex felt the tremor, with some saying they thought it was a plane crash or a bomb.

Solidly warm across the region now with 20C recorded widely. Norwich the warm spot at 21C.

Showers are breaking out over the Midlands so hopefully these will develop and hit the region later.

Heard the rumble last night sounded like thunder. My son's friend aged 23 died in the earthquake in Nepal on 25th. He was only 23 went to school with my son. Weird coincidence this happened in Kent where Matt lived.

A bit cloudy out at the moment. Like Lukey G said, some lovely cloud structure and patterns about. Just had a few spots of rain, and feels quite pleasant out.

What fools on from all the meteorological agencies thought that today would be a fine and sunny day considering we have a north easterly wind.

grey skies and drizzle here.

Maybe but not here, heavy drizzle this morning.
Still cloudy and cool at 14c.
It is getting brighter though.

Yes got caught out today as well, even reading the met forecast for London right now it says that today will be dry and warm with sunny spells. In reality it's raining, cool and 100% overcast...
