2006 was an el nino summer..hottest July on record.

About 80% of the 18C summer months since 1950 have occured with +MEI conditions. However, overall there is no bias towards warmer or cooler summers caused by El Nino which suggests that they tend to either be very good or very bad. El Nino was not declared until the Autumn of 06 but MEI readings do show a weak El Nino during the summer. That said, 2014, 2012 and 2009 all produced horror months and averaged warmer than 06.

It's around 18 here. The onshore breeze does keep down grass-pollen though.

A very strange start to the month so far in that it has been very dry, very sunny, but also warm by day and cold by night.

1st-11th June figures (vs rolling 1981-2010 average)

Max Temp: 17.9C (+0.8C)

Min Temp:  6.8C (-3.3C)

Mean Temp: 12.4C (-1.2C)

Rainfall: 12.8mm (58%)

Sunshine: 111hrs (185%)

The nights in particular have been exceptional with three sub-5C minima in a row now.

I think the highest England temperature was recorded last Friday (26.7C in Kent), though there is every chance that it will be beaten tomorrow in any good sunny spells.

the 26.7C was recorded in Kent last week wasn't it? Certainly nowhere that warm today. Warmest I can see is Yeovil at 25C.

At last, what I'd call a 'summers day' here at 24C and blue skies. After some truly dismal cold days. Hopefully storms and heat tomorrow!

RAIN!!!!!!!!! AAAAHH.gif

Still 20C though. Warm rain, at least. And just a few large drops. Almost feels tropical.. except, you know, being 10 degrees too cool, lol.

Today was the first day this month that really did feel dire. We had a max temp of 13.9C under overcast skies all day with a chilly easterly breeze.

A bit different to forecast, but such is low cloud off the North Sea.

Sutton Bonington had 36mm of rain overnight whilst Nottingham had 34mm certainly a wet one for central parts of the UK

Leeming has 131 hours of sun for the first 12 days of the month, an average of 11 a day. Past five days have had the following sunshine hours - 13.5, 15.9, 14.6, 12.1, 9.7.

The recent warmth has also  helped push the average high close to normal, but the average low is still only 6C which is well below average and would be below average even for May.

Totally agree with you on that on Tb... Azores high has been flirting with our shores for what seems like ages now... last winter being a classic case, mostly cold Northwesterlies.. and into spring except for April which wasn`t too bad a month... but mainly a cool draught from there on in.

Hope fully the Azores high will pounce on the UKI and give us all a decent few months,

Heres a totally random question for anyone to help me with....... what is the average temperature at the top of mount Teide in Teneriffe for July? sub tropical i know but at 3000 ft  would shorts and t-shirt be a good idea?

Teide summit will be in single figures even in July, a good guide is that it usually about 15-20C below the temperature at sea level. Even today while most of the area is about 22C the summit is just 4C.

You could get lucky of course and be there during a hot spell blowing off the Sahara, but even then it'll only be in the teens.
