Storm & Convective Discussion - SPANISH PLUME - 30/06/15 onwards

Looking at Sat24 there's definitely an interesting area of instability including an active storm moving towards S/SE England which I didn't expect to see this evening.. Perhaps a trough feature/disturbance that wasn't really picked up by the models?

One to keep an eye on and shows unexpected developments can happen, I remember last year much of the SE had a great line of storms one night when it was only really the SW that was forecast to get anything.

However the CAPE shown on the GFS is highest over the SW and moving NNW, different to this clump of instability.. not sure how it will fare when/if it reaches the SE?

Sorry I didn't post the direction, it's East, so I imagine it's the Pennines

Oh and apologies it's sideways!

I've spent the evening outside watching the Altoculmulus lenticularis come and go over the hills here in the Aire Valley. Stunning!

watching storms in channel backbuilding to the south. more breaking out to the east

should they continue to move north-east, i'm guessing they make landfall somewhere central-south coast

Troughs were picked up by the Met Office on their fax charts I saw yesterday and this morning for midnight tonight, 06.00 tomorrow and midday tomorrow, transferring from the Channel towards the Midlands over that timescale.

Interesting, I was just going off how no forecast or models I have seen showed any activity at this time or put the SE in the firing line tonight (not that it necessarily will be but the cloud on satellite images is shifting that way)

Just home after chaos on the trains. As I was approaching home, I could make out what appears to be (though can't be 100% certain) AcCas moving in from the S/SE (still fairly distant). D:Ream's "things can only get better" came on the radio....make of that what you will!

Can someone explain why these clouds are moving NE instead of with the flow of air (NW)?

Something's building mid channel South of Brighton  :)

Yep.

First pic looking to the south towards channel, second to the west.

Come out of nowhere in the last hour.

Area of convection appearing to be heading towards London? Hopefully it explodes once it makes landfall.

If this is true then I'm gonna be like a kid on xmas morning. ;)

Edit: Actually looking at the radar I might just be out of range but you never know.
