Today has seen this begin to turn into a pretty wet August, 14mm today taking the total to 55mm with 12 days left and the potential for a lot more this weekend.

Amazing difference in rainfall between you and I, Andy. Still only 25mm here this month, chiefly from the 14th and Wednesday, and some heavy showers on the 10th.

Two days of high humidity, a lot of Stratocumulus, light rain/drizzle with only brief warm sunshine and we now have almost clear sky after sunset with a lovely half moon shining!

I hope this is paving the way to a sunny/hot day tomorrow but fear the low cloud, which can still be seen to the W/NW in the dusk light, will return.

Another drab day here. However, the mighty Red Arrows managed to put a good but very disappointing show on at Sidmouth this evening, the first time in several years!

Could do with that wind to shift to SE and get rid of some of this cloud. Lovely warm and humid with intermittent sunshine but really want to make the most of a sunny afternoon before things potentially kick off later.

Looks like it may be a very wet 5-6 days coming up, with systems bringing heavy rain tonight/tomorrow, Monday and possibly also Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday too.

I think some places may see more than 100mm during this period as suggested by this chart:

Already up to 75mm here this month too.

So just watched the latest TV forecast, which went a little something like this, hit it.  :D

  • This PM - rain out West some heavy bursts within it, isolated showers, some downpours with Thunder and strong winds further East. Temps nudging 30c in some prone locations.  :bomb:
  •
  • This evening into Tonight - rain up from the Channel affecting western parts due West of Newbury judging by the predicted animations, all of this drifting Westwards into the overnight period, some Thunder embedded within this system.  :bomb:
  •
  • Tomorrow - A thoroughly wet day overall for most parts of Southern and SW England after what will be a very muggy night with Temps no lower than 19/20c in some parts. Increasingly windy in this system especially nearer the coast.  :bomb:
  •
  • Tomorrow night - Another band of rain incoming once the first batch clears Northwards, turning windy again, potentially very windy for time of year.  :nonono:
  •
  • Monday/Tuesday - Further bits and pieces of rain about over most parts and much cooler by now.  :pardon:

An interesting period upcoming for sure and some Thundery action for a few of us whilst simply very wet for a whole lot of us.

The sky is incredibly unstable here. I think gottolovethisweather's forecast is played down somewhat. Looking at the sky and feeling the mugginess of the air, I think we could be in for some big thunderstorms tonight.

Only going by what was on the box William but yes, it feels very ripe for something very special. One thing is certain to my mind, that will be the inevitable flooding which is on its way for a few folk. Wet wet wet sums up the more certain aspects of the forthcoming weather.  :good:

Nice echo heading my way, quite a surprise as thought these storms were meant to kick off much further east!

Good luck - hope you get some action. The back edge is just clearing through now and headed pretty much due north.

East Devon and Somerset the places to be currently Thunder wise, maybe a slight risk further East too within an hour or so.

Forgot to say the last remaining avro vulcan bomber (The Spirit of Great Britain) flew overhead just before the storms started, What an amazing sight and the noise was awesome. I did a double take as from beneath it looks like concorde (and sounds like it too!). Rain torrential again.
