Chilly and predominantly dry week ahead then. Let's see if we can get the cold in and then keep it long enough to grab a surprise disturbance etc.

Some nice frosts to come in the next 10 days or so.

Very pleasant in the sun today! Quite glorious in fact even if it is only about 8c. :) that strengthening sun showing its hand now! :) it's like mid August where you feel the first real wane into autumn. Now 6 months later we have the opposite. :D

yes, certainly people that say the sun isn't getting stronger in Feb are wrong, the sun is higher/stronger in Feb than early Dec to mid Jan

Thought it has been glorious in the sun today. It's strength really starting to show now. Lots of fresh growth in the woods and the birds tweeting till late. Could have easily been April!  Felt like a real first early taste of Spring today! :)

yes, shouldn't even be a debate about stronger Feb sun, I know definitely, especially mid Feb to late Feb, the sun shines on more surfaces thawing more snow, than exactly same setup at say Xmas

Bar an unexpected snowfall this week the winter of 2015/16 is heading to be the 4th least snowy winter on record here ( 40 years ) with regard to the accumulated depth of snow.

So far we've had 10.2cm which puts this winter ahead of 2007/08 with 4.9cm; 1992/93 with 9.8cm and 2013/14 with 10.0cm.  Next up on the list after this winter are 1988/89 and 1996/97 both of which had 15.0cm.

I have never seen and felt things so springlike at this time of year! Ok temperatures aren't in the teens but the strength in the sun is really starting to feel noticeable now. Alex deakin emphasised this tonight. And with so many early daffodils and lots of trees here beginning to bud and the smell of freshly cut grass beginning to emerge, my spirits have really been lifted. Best 'cold' spell of the winter. More please. :).

late Feb not winter as such, this setup in Dec would be true winter, but won't happen with too active Atlantic

Pretty decent day today. Min of -4.7 °C last night -- good going for these parts, as -5 °C is pretty rare here without snow cover. Then that gave  way to sparkling sunshine for most of the day. Cloud filled in a bit after mid-afternoon, but at least it didn't go too gloomy. Now down to 1.6 °C again.

It's the first pure snow (as opposed to sleet/RASN) this winter season! We had a 5-minute flurry in November too.

Yes, but they are struggling to get past the Cheshire/Shropshire border looking at the radar. Only a few scraps are getting here, hopefully they'll do better as the night progresses.

Another beautiful morning though a cloudy afternoon. However that was forecast so no complaints. It is so pleasant in the sunshine at the moment. Smelling lots of freshly cut grass too. Hard to believe it is still February!

can definitely tell it's February, stronger sun, usually sunniest month, as any later in year more cloud due to convection
