Depends what you mean by decent.

Have seen snow settle lots of times in a north west flow.

Far more common here than snow fall in any Easterly set-up.

Yes, a couple of brief flurries past by last winter didnt it. Remember last February I think it was, we had snow for about an hour in Penryn and did settle on some surfaces. Did not settle closer to sea level in Falmouth though. Think they came from a cold WNW/NW flow. The beast from the easterly quadrant is always tricky business as the battle line always seems to hang around the Cornwall through to Ireland sector.

PS It'll be interesting to see if we get some hill snow in parts of W Country/SE Wales/Cotswolds tonight, as per some MOGREPS members. It's not a firm signal but sufficient members of that suite have it for us to be watchful.

It's currently just rain here up in the Mendips.

Wow, that's more like an alien invasion than rain!

Cloudy. Temp 5,6C and a zephyr from the WSW.

Nothing has altered my view this morning that we could be looking at a week of anticyclonic dominance from this weekend heralding a period of quiet cold weather, with quite severe frosts, Prior to that will be the transition with the possibility of some snow in some areas but the detail of this will be unclear until nearer the time.

Chilly start! Well, an interesting few days coming-up... especially given how modelling is struggling with nearer-term features, with confidence low into medium range. Indeed, just last night UKMO noted how a combination of factors *could* mean effectively colder conditions being in-situ across the next 15 days (note models inevitably lean to shunting colder blocks aside far too quickly). So, we might be in a bit of a rut for at least a while, trying to nail-down awkward local detail when it comes to rain v sleet v snow. Forewarned and all that....!!

Well fergie your right the models were very progressive in trying to get rid of the cold way too early!!this morning the models are much better if you like cold weather!infact it gets colder as the high comes over us this weekend and winds swing around to the east slightly!!

Cheers Ian, look forward to your updates as I rapidly lose the will to live trying to decipher reality from the wishful thinking and dreams in the MOD thread.

I suspect that Jethro & Knocker will wait with baited breath on every word from Ian this week, as their reputation as naked dancers 'hangs' by a thread:clap:

14.1mm from overnight and probably no thunder as I usually wake at the first slight rumble/flash and I've slept solidly from half eleven to half seven!

Our small streams are well up again, hopefully not cutting us off as we have to venture to Yeovil this afternoon!
