There must be a reason these showers that come from the NW seem to fragment on entry to the manchester area, i have defo seen it before and tonight is just another example.

Either that or bad luck..

Winter Hill is to the northwest of Manchester but I can't see that producing a rain shadow effect.

Pennines to our north above Bury/Rochdale might be blocking some of it.

I hope this band clears through by 10 or 11pm so the frost will set in to bring very cold temperatures.

Moderate snow hit us around 1.30pm big snowflakes for a time leaving a couple of cm cover, things eased off late afternoon with a light sleety wet snowfall, however, about 7pm we saw further moderate snow covering all surfaces. We have about an inch - not bad. Hoping it will stick through tomorrow.

Moderate snow continuing for most of the evening, is lying a bit more again and at least most surfaces will have a fairly thin covering of snow now. Hoping to get that last lot of heavier PPN from Cumbria or for something to develop to the West of it then we can get a little bit more then I'll be happy with that considering how some areas missed out all together so I am fortunate for once!

Ground is sopping wet here. Even if it did miraculously start snowing it can't lay.
