I'll take back what I said.

plain old rain quickly turned into some of the heaviest falling snow I've seen for years.

massive flakes and although it took a while to start settling it's now about an inch deep and still coming down.

still didn't really want it in April but nice to see all the same.

Stunning! Hopefully it will freeze now that the night is approaching.

Any other areas around the Pennines with snow? I wonder whether to take a drive tomorrow morning.

Very pleasant early spring day, good visibility and plenty of sunny breaks and blue sky, cool though max of about 9 degrees. Conditions rapidly deteriorated late afternoon with cloud rolling in, temps tumbled down just below 5 degrees under rain which became sleety for a time, suspect the snowline is about 350m. Rain has now stopped current temp 4.3 degrees. A frost is likely in the early hours and tomorrow promises to be an excellent day for anyone wanting to see lakeland in its early spring splendour - daffodils and primroses abound, and the woodlands are still bare mostly of green, but we are seeing hawthorn coming into leaf, and it won't be long before most of the trees start to sprout light green leaves, the next 4 weeks see a major change in our countryside - its a great time to go for a walk in the woodlands, before the dark canopy take over.

-0.2°C with a frost coating most surfaces, suns up now so it won't last long. Should be a decent sunny day for getting out and about.

Stunning start to the day, the hills and fields are white from yesterday's snow and glistening in the sunshine.

temperature was at freezing point about 30 minutes ago but it's already climbing so I'd expect that much of the lying snow, certainly in the valley will be gone by late morning.

Bobby dazzler day - that rain in the west won't bother us today.  Not often you see rain in the west just 'stayin' there (southern Ireland copping it)... feels quite springlike in the ever strengthening sunshine.

Some photos from my friend around their farm near Sedbergh this morning, quite a wintry scene.

Got down to -2C this morning here. Car and grass was white. But "warmed" up to 11C with the increasingly strong April sun as Liam notes above.

The last 24 hours have been a good lesson for anyone wanting to witness the power of evaporative cooling and the power of the sun at this time of year. Yesterday's snow came courtesy of a number of ingredients coming together all at once, a shot of very cold polar air, low thicknesses, little wind and moderate/heavy precipitation enabled snow to fall to quite low levels, about 250 metres over large parts of north/central/east lakes and Pennine locations - we were just on the edge and came close to see some wet snow, but probably not high enough for anything settling. Alas there was an unusual contrast between the western lakeland fells and the eastern fells, and more so Howgill territory this morning, looking west barely any snow to speak of, only vagaries on the very highest tops from early falls this week, however from Fairfield eastwards snow was visible down to about 300 metre mark, becoming more pronounced on far eastern fells, and I could see it had fallen across very modest heights in the countryside towards the Howgills. The reason for now snow in the west is simply down to the fact the precipitation there was very light, whilst we saw heavier pulses in the east and much longer lasting.

Today also showed how powerful the sun is now, by lunchtime much of the snow had melted on ground up to about 700 metres, temperatures climbing from sub freezing to 10 degrees or so.

An excellent day as I was anticipating for getting out and about, the air had a wonderful fresh polar feel to it. April is definately our most topsy turvy month.

Cloudy and breezy this morning with an overnight low of 7.2°C. Rain not too far away on the radar but it's moving NW towards N Ireland so it may stay dry until later on before the front moves north tonight.

Generally cloudy with brief glimpses of hazy sunshine.  I'm currently moving my outdoor sensor but outdoors feels like the reported 16C.  Last night went down to around 7C so quite mild.
