Looks like an equal risk between NW England and CS England. Due to the fact that Manchester/Lancashire is half the distance of CS England for me I am going to head NW. I may be making a poor choice but I just don't feel there is enough of a risk to warrant a 350 mile round trip today. A 180 mile round trip is a bit easier to stomach if nothing happens. Add to this that NW England has been in sunshine since daybreak and has temperatures now up to 24c with dew points of 15c along with a strong convergence zone between the Lancashire coastline and the Pennines.

Those further south are still at risk, but it will be later on. Good luck all.

A nice day for a drive through the Peak District too, so I win whatever :)

Rain Alarm, what's happening off the east coast....? Looks like the radar is being chopped off?

Can anyone elaborate on where the indicated rain actually ends on its western flank?

It's quite normal - there's no radar coverage in the middle of the north sea.

Although what I would say is that you ought to take a look at our storm radar - ad free, and recently upgraded to 5 minute updates :D

On my radar on this netweather it's showing nothing I'm in south Lincolnshire very hot here. Hoping for some storm action later all toes and fingers crossed

off out shortly...target today is the M4 corridor as far east as newbury, A34 as far south as Southampton, and A303 as far west as Wincanton....a good chase zone I think and fast roads for if I have to move in a hurry

I love days like today, scorching with scenic cu filled sky. Only an apocalyptic thunderstorm can beat it.

Also possible convergence zone in mid wales this evening?. Wishful thinking. :)

Sorry I misunderstood the original question, the rain on that screenshot doesn't exist, so assume it's an error somewhere on that particular app. No storms likely in that part of the country today I'm afraid.

Good luck, Supa. Reliability of something firing (showers have already formed, in fact) and shorter distance makes far NW the better option. Timing of any developments toward south/SW likely to be from late afternoon and during evening hours, and with the isolated nature of any storms, doesn't seem worth it.  Decent obs so far over latter region- temps generally around 21-22C; dewpoints mid-teens (doubt they'll reach GFS' upper teen progs).  Few more hours of good sfc heating though should build CAPE.  Just a waiting game to see if CZs can get something to fire.

Some ACas floated by earlier but not much cloud about at all now and currently 23C, rather nice.

A few towers going up towards Macclesfield, updrafts just not enough to sustain any development past the cap (yet).

Yes, sorry... not phrased very well!!

I have used rain alarm for along time alongside netweather radar, must be a problem with the rain alarm general, as you said, that rain just isn't there!!!!!!

Netweather was showing absolutely nowt, so I questioned rain alarm rather than netweather as being incorrect...!

Absolutely stunning day here...decent signs of instability developing albeit not for our eventual enjoyment here in the SE.

This is what is bubbling up over my house - some cloud porn for @William Grimsley

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
