Yeah it was much colder than forecast last night, here anyway.

TV forecast I saw said 4c and meto website said 5c min. We must have had a clearer spell because I've got a min of -0.2 last night so we went sub zero

so can someone sum up where yorkshire stands at the moment?

If the GFS is right wet normal temps by day mild by night. If the UKMO is right cold.  Deciding vote ECM by the looks of it.

I wouldn't go down to the bookies right now and wouldn't be too concerned about your snow shovel.

ECM falls in line with the GFS so a wet xmas it is then so even though still in lala land chances are of a white xmas are virtually nil now.  The only possible saving grace is that it's still lala land bit it does look like the models have finally made their mind up.

Still a bit too far out yet to call it PIT i think. Only Sunday and Xmas day is still 6 days away of course. We have seen models underestimate blocking at this range so I'll remain hopeful for Yorkshire a few days longer ❄️

If there wasn't general agreement I would agree. Even if they did back track you then got factor in the normal downgrading in the strength of the cold, Gut instinct and years of model watching tell me a newer trend has been spotted.

Yes it could be. We always know how to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory in the UK don't we

I think there's still a chance for colder weather and maybe snow after Christmas too if it doesn't work out for Xmas day. What do you think? We can hope

Very moody at Langsett Reservoir in the fog today. It was surreal standing at the waters edge unable to see the surface because it was perfectly still and smooth, and the fog meant no reflection of the far hillside.

Christmas week still looks up in the air at the moment.  From the 0z runs today GFS has switched back to a cold outlook, along with GEM, JMA and ICON, but UKMO and ECM have switched to mild!  You couldn’t make it up really!

GFS out on it's own as you say. Forecasters are going with a mild xmas with only a slight hope for northern Scotland. You may get better odds now for  white xmas and if you feel like betting choose Aberdeen rather than London.

Interesting that Steve Murr on Twitter is going with the GFS over the Euros.  He normally favours the Euros and bins the GFS!

ECM Ops also confirmed as a mild outlier from Christmas day onwards.

I’d also just spotted that tweet from Matt H.  The Easterly wind direction would indicate that the low approaching from the West is progged to take a Southerly track.  Goods news for us!

After a nice GFS 6z this morning the UKMO 12z now gets back onboard with the bowling ball low now split into 2 weaker lows and sliding under the block on Christmas Day, and just look at those 850’s for Boxing Day!  Much improved!

Yep looks like an underplaying of heights, the ecm op was some way an outlier earlier. I’m starting to believe we might actually get a decent white Christmas. Still all to play for.

GFS 12z is also an improvement for cold but, because the front stalls and slides it never makes it to our region.  There is virtually no precipitation in Christmas Day and this is as far as it gets before sliding South East on Boxing Day.

We might end up cold but find ourselves in a no mans land re snow falling, unless the low continues to move further south as we get nearer the day, in which case we may see snow coming in off an Easterly.
