Decided to stay up for the possible snow in Lincoln, but although the temperature is still down at -1.6C at the University, so far it's started off as a mix of freezing rain and ice pellets, indicating warmer air aloft in Lincolnshire (but evidently not in Yorkshire, where it's snow). The Netweather radar does suggest potential for it to turn to snow once the heavier part of it is overhead.

Clearing here now but you should have a good few hours looking at the radar.

Yes, I'm guessing that evaporative cooling mixed out the warmer air aloft that was causing the freezing rain at the beginning.

Amazingly this is my first proper lying snow event in downhill Lincoln since I moved here in April 2021, I did have several mornings with slushy dustings in the winters of 2021/22 and 2022/23 but in each case I had to walk uphill to the Lincoln Cathedral area to see anything close to a full covering.

Good job I had that first bit of snow tonight otherwise it would’ve been very disappointing

Just down the road in Newark we already have a decent blanket on all surfaces including main roads - grit???

Looks like we might end up with 5cm or so.

Fair bit of snow here and looks like going to get a bit more before it turns to sleet. Unexpected 6 miles from the sea at low elevation this early in the season.Screenshot_20231203_055312.thumb.jpg.f59a7a3fd899871f449ef8301157a60f.jpg

Well this is a bonus early December, 1-2cm minimum in Grimsby this morning and that’s rare! 🤣

Nice surprise waking up to a full cover of snow on the ground, obviously full on sleet now and melting already.

Hopefully it’s a good sign for this winter going forwards, didn’t expect any lying snow whatsoever here with being right next to the sea!

Snowed here, just looks like a thin covering but it makes it the 3 rd day with snow in this cold spell, T=0.4 C after falling to -0.6 C earlier

Not been out yet, but my wife went out with the dog and judging by her footprints, we have a couple of cm here.

Overnight low was -0.4c and currently 0.1c at 7.25, so nowhere near as cold last night as the previous.

A decent covering here, perhaps a cm or so. Did not expect much so that's a bonus so early in winter.

Sat at 0.9C so it shouldnt go too quickly.

A smidge under 3cm. Not bad for the start of winter. The Christmas period also shaping up to be potentially interesting! In the meantime potential for further snow tomorrow before turning to rain away from the hill tops.

Similar amounts here in Kippax perhaps a  bit less. A bit disappointed that the heavier stuff stayed just south of here rather than what was modeled (was supposed to be a bit further north the heavier stuff.)

Lovely to see the local snow pics  😃
I peeped out at 1 am to nothing, but have woken to
a pretty overall covering.  I'd say 1cm.
Very grey skies, but I can hear dripping.

Yeah, bit frustrating though we can't complain ( better than most of the country!). Perhaps a temporary top up in the morning before a thaw. I'm now looking to festive period for our next chances..

Heavy snow will cover grit. Rest assured the roads will have been gritted. There as systems and detailed forecast and they'll always err on the side of caution
