Another thunderstorm over Darlo not bad considering we're outside the warning zone 😂

Any idea on your rainfall total for the day so far?

I was casting an envious eye over Darlington's convective cloudscape earlier when I was soaking my lawn with the hosepipe. Had nothing but a few spits and spots of rain in Middlesbrough.

Well my neighbour certainly didn't need to water their garden after the deluge in Chester le street

Another wet day. Most of the country is dry it’s just here that has these showers that will not move! This July could be the wettest for a number of years.

This chart sums up our climate, never mind weather! 99% of the time it's colder than anywhere else, I'm under the 17c.

I've noticed this as well, this area often has worse weather in summer than the rest of the country. Like on Tuesday for example, only the area around Newcastle has the north sea filth lingering. Wednesday also looks like a cloud fest until 3pm.

It certainly was a decent week.🫠

A chance of the odd storm today, but Sunday looks to have some quite widespread showers and storms during the afternoon and evening,so probably a yellow warning out soon for that.

Are there any live webcams round Newcastle? The lightning looks good on the radar

I'm not sure, but I can tell you that the weather is pretty lively in Newcastle right now. Constant thunder and torrential rain.

You could pretty much draw a 3d topographical map of the NE right now, just from the radar sequence for today; the conveyor of moisture from the sea sure picks out the hills well. Very unusual this side of the Pennines.

ETA: I haven't seen any "If only it was January" posts anywhere yet, anyone?

I'm back for another Winters chase, looking like a promising start this season, could we get our first snow this week - looks interesting🙂

I think we have a better chance than most areas in the UK. I do feel that it will be marginal so the usual areas like Stanley/Consett will probably see a bit but i doubt coastal areas will see anything settling.

My app has just upgraded the forecast. Now says snow on Wed, Thursday and Sunday. I'm not expecting much in darlo but there again I don't want much. An inch or two that hangs around for a week with some freezing fog would be nice.

That time of year again where I appear! Noticed there's a meltdown as per usual on the Winter thread from the southerners 🤣🤣

We might get a bit lucky over the next week or so up here I reckon

With the exception of Thursday, the next week or so looks like it will bring a lot of cold, dry and sunny weather leading to a run of frosty nights
