Winter has returned to the Lakeland fells. A decent cover above about 400m, most for 4 weeks.

Maybe next year.

(Or December)

I was up early this morning, so managed to scrape a little bit of brightness, but grey skies now with rain lurking in the west.  Time for some indoor DIY with football commentary assisting the painting strokes.

Rain turning sleety in the heavier bursts and a cold raw feel to the day.

thoroughly depressing.

Oh dear a rather miserable Sunday out there, not a patch on last year's mothers day on the 22 March which brought blue skies, sunshine and some early warmth, indeed it marked the start of the lengthy dry sunny warm period that held sway through until late June in the main..

Its a cold wet afternoon, current temp 6.8 degrees, low cloud, poor visibility, moderate rain... yuck yuck..

Looking forward to some sunshine next week, March so far has been woeful on the sunshine front! Should boost temps into low double digits at least, rather than the 5-9 degree mark that we've had so far this month.

Snow has held on the fells this morning, snowline risen a bit to about 500-550m, the tops will getting a good top up now, but milder air tomorrow will bring a thaw.

Might be another burst of winter later in the new week..

A quite miserable day; grey, wet & windy - and rather cool. One of those days that are the opposite of 'usable' in regards to outside activities.

Well this mornings ECM certainly raises an eyebrow for winters last horary at day 6 and day 7 Saturday sees the -12 isotherm into the region which is certainly cold enough for snow showers to low levels by Sunday slightly milder air -7 isotherm covers the region with snow showers reserved for higher ground with perhaps the risk of a wintry mix to lower levels turning milder there after so a brief wintry blast on the cards for the weekend coming.

This evenings ECM the total opposite to this mornings offering looks like the countryfile forecast is going with this mornings ECM with cold Northerly flow then switching to a North easterly over the weekend looking for a warm up now to be honest but happy to take whatever the weather gods through at us.

Pretty mild temperatures coming up really. But not enough to spur on any vigorous Spring growth. Not unusual though as I don't recall everything blooming this early. Still none where my cousin lives in Mont de Marsan in the south of France. A long way south of us. Usually we drive down there in late April to visit for a week, in time before it gets too hot as it really can there, similar to Spain. So hopefully we can go before the Summer as we've both been vaccinated now.

Much better day, felt like early spring rather than the recent late winter feel. Temps climbed into doubld figures, about 11 degrees, very respectable combined with sunny spells it has been a very pleasant day.

Outlook promises more such days interspersed with a few cooler ones perhaps a few showery outbreaks and sometimes overcast. A generally quiet outlook nothing untoward or abnormal for the time of year, indeed very normal which at this time of year means unexciting.

Lovely day out there, feels very much like Spring! Sunshine, blue sky, light winds, current temp 12.5 degrees. Lake District one of the favoured spots UK wide, rare can say this! But most likely to be the case in the Spring months than rest of the year.

We pay the price tonight as expect to be one of the coldest spots with a frost, reminder it is only mid March.

Only turned sunny about an hour ago here. Was rather dull up until that point, the cloud was supposed to have cleared about mid day but took longer. Lots of dull symbols on the Met office forecast from Thursday so sunshine looks to be at a premium.

Not been a bad afternoon after an early frost. But not that warm, still a reminder that it's March after all.

Looking forward to the first 20C though. When I look at my records and average them out it's about late April/early May when it occurs. So still about 5 weeks at the earliest. Can still get high teens though before then and in a strengthening sun that can feel nice.

Cloudy skies this morning gave way to glorious blue skies by early afternoon, in light winds temps climbed to 12 degrees, another good Spring day.
