Lamentably poor Met O. Drove to Salford and back today, and there was continuous snow cover with temperatures barely scraping above freezing in the Quays this afternoon.

Approx 10cm here, and we've had snow cover since Friday night.

Currently -5.6c under clear skies with freezing fog in the valley.

A memorable 48 hrs of weather or so. A Severe storm the like we haven't seen in a long time - unusual given the wind was a north one... followed by best November snowfall since 2010.

Had a better fall of snow in Nov’96 here

Stuck around -0.8°C here. Don’t think it will get as cold in the region as some expect tonight, air is too saturated and there is a growing inversion aloft. Cloud also will be coming into the west by dawn.

I think you are right. It dropped down to -5.8C a couple of hours ago but now the fog has rolled in and it's risen to a toasty -4C. Never mind was hoping for a real humdinger of cold tonight but probably not to be.

Freezing fog and rime.

I'll say it again, why no ice warning, Met Office?

Hopefully regional councils have been busy through the night gritting, -3 here at the moment, non treated roads will be treacherous.  Stay safe everyone if your driving, try and stay upright if you are walking.

-4C here according to local obs. I can hear the ominous sound of tyres crunching on frozen snow as cars negotiate the side roads.

More potential for snow later on Thursday it seems after a brief milder interlude tomorrow. The metoffice forecast is quite vague with details at the moment stating  the following:

Drier, brighter and less windy on Thursday before a band of rain and snow sweeps through overnight into Friday with further strong winds.

I don't understand, why can't a simple yellow warning be established. Roads are laden with black ice and powdery snow everywhere. At least the local councils are gritting the roads.

-4ºC here currently; it's dropped to nearly -7ºC overnight judging the greenhouse stat

It's taken me an age to defrost the wife's Racing Jazz

Lovely though; still can't believe they're forecasting 9/10ºC tomorrow  What is it with this topsy-turvy weather!

A select few could see some flakes this morning with some moisture now starting to move in from the sea. Either that or some freezing rain as the cold uppers are mixed out. Won’t be much non-the-less.

Yep, I’ve also said it three times. Pathetic from the Met. If this was the south, there would certainly have been an amber warning. It’s dangerous out there! More dangerous than the wind the other day, and that got a red warning.

They removed the warning early yesterday and never re-issued later in the day. I wonder if there is a bit of stubbornness from the metoffice, eg not wanting to U-turn. Can't think why else the warning wasn't re-issued for the North-West. Treacherous out there.

Nice sunrise and low temperatures overnight meant a lot of scraping from windscreens in the street, with ice on untreated surfaces and pavements. No fog but cloud has started to roll in now, probably leading to a thaw and rise in temperatures during the day. Barometer has done a u-turn, from a low on Friday night to something indicating a return to high pressure.
