We had a decent amount of snow last night then more this morning. Now it has passed through and we have had some rain. The snow is thawing quickly as the warmer temps move in.

Some nice big fat flakes now with the precipitation more like proper snow again ❄️

Sadly itll be sleet to follow as it comes in from the west. A wintry mix here for the past 30 mins or so!

Just seen Chris Fawkes tweet with Arpege showing. Keeps Birmingham with snow and the rain line doesn’t get to us today. We must be right on the boundary

Yes an interesting tweet from a professional.

Only thing I can think is happening is the level at between ground and 5000 feet holds the zero iso therm line at 0, because at 5000 feet (850hpa level) it reaches 1 in bham by 2pm on the models

Ooh big update from chris fawky then @Battleground Snow❄️👀

If we can keep hold of the snow on the ground until 8-9pm then good potential for accumulations overnight. Fawkes confident of 5-10cm in East Midlands airport which is pretty close to my area.

It'll be gutting if it does turn to rain and sleet soon, because that stuff coming out of Wales looks very heavy!

That makes sense. Snow cover may help too

Turning sleety here for certain. Best hope ideally would be for the precip to clear until this evening. What time do the charts show colder air moving back in by?

very heavy  snow, looks straight coming down like its 'rain' so think its a very wet heavy sleet.  Falling from trees here now too,  dew  -0.1

The stuff in Wales is probably rain already, you can see how sharp it looks on the radar compared to the smudgy looking stuff further north where the snow is. Be interesting to see if it changes to snow as it moves.

It's still snow here in Ratby, around 20 miles North of you. Not a good sign for me though if the sleet line is that close already 😔

Must be close to 10cm on the ground in highest parts of North Derbyshire already  looking at easily 1ft+ if it carries on like this.
