38.2c at Santon Downham, on 18th July Suffolk ill punt for, I was stuck between there and 1 or 2 other locations further SW but as no-one mentioned it I'll go for it my bets in.

I do believe I almost nailed todays temp and was the onlyperson to guess the correct location. Funny thing is I had in mind 38.1c as per the official temp but I saw some ody already mentioned that! So went .1c up for today! Still whats the bonus prize? 😀

Cant we do a quick fire 2nd comp for tomorrow?

On another note i recorded a shade temp of 39c in Gravesend/Northfleet today but to those that said Gravesend would be hottest, the Met dont use our location or anywhere near here anymore which is very frustrating!!! Whenever I've driven when I was a delivery drive to Suffolk London Cambridge or Heathrow etc etc 9/10 it was always hottest here by a degree or 2 to most those locations on van temp. We would have recorded the hottest UK temp today but will never know officially!

Kew Gardens in London has seen a temperature of 40.1C.

That's absolutely hilarious.

Well I was wrong on a lot of things, but I did say a high of 39.9c in Cambridge, which actually did happen two days later… and wasn’t the highest temperatures. Details…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

All talk about Tuesday highs beside the point as contest period ended Monday 18th. That said, I mentioned 40.3 in Herts, found out later that Herts probably does not have a qualifying location. oops. (Rothamsted is southeast of Luton and probably near the county boundary and Northolt is too far southwest, no doubt it was 40.3 somewhere in Herts anyway, a day later than the contest so what does that mean? nothing actually)

Couldn't have been known when the contest was launched of course, but somewhat ironic in a way that the day *after* the contest period ended was the one that broke 40 °C for the first time ever!

Still, even up to Monday my guess (35.8 °C) proved a considerable understatement to say the least.

And to think so much of the model chat was "the models delaying it means it will never happen!"

So true, the amount of sceptical posts from the NOW some what 'quiet' posters when the models moved things on 24hrs was laughable,

That applies to cold however heat nearly always turn off. Now if you said laughing at T240 saying it never will happen thats another bit of humble pie.

It's interesting that's no one commented on how well the models did. Normally anything at time period is chucked out after a few runs. It briefly got shoved to northern France before they switched back.

The last we heard 38.1 at Santon Downham Monday was the correct result, Kentspur had 38.2 there and then which is very good, Bradley in Kent had earlier posted 38.1 at another location. That's not "contest official data" of course, just an answer to your question until we get a better one.

If you meant did anyone say 40.3 (outside the contest framework) actually six different people had 40.3 at a variety of locations. Nobody mentioned Coningsby or even Lincs (if that's where Coningsby is) and I was one of the six, saying Herts where there are no actual locations as far as I could determine later. You'd have to look back through the thread to find all the others at 40.3. But of course we were saying 40.3 on Monday so that wasn't all that great.

Anyone who went for 40C were pretty spot on, but it was all a bit of fun!

Indeed, it was the 'green house effect' showing its true colours!

Yeah, this is nothing new.

1995 and even more recently 2018, had longer periods of hot sunny weather.

I think what is new is that temps of 26 and 27 C feel normal and in addition to this the cloudier periods, at least here in Peterborough, feel warmer. Maybe it's the soil moisture, or lack of it. I look out of the window and it looks grey but when you go outside it's not cold. If soil moisture was higher then it may well have been a couple of degrees cooler and the wind maybe a little colder.

This feels like how the south east felt in those years but this time 100 miles further north
