I dunno about anyone else but I feel as exhausted mentally over the temperatute and sun fighting in here this year as I usually am at the end of a hunt for snow season! Roll on winter for a rest from the heat fight and onto the snow fight lolol!!

22c here as well. More frequent sunny spells after a cloudy morning with a couple of fleeting showers on the breeze. Still feels muggy but with more of a breeze not quite so oppressive as yesterday.

Yes, we haven't had an unsettled 11th of September (barring Scotland maybe) for a good few years now, 2017 I believe was the last one.

Converely, it has been some time since we last had a settled 30th of September.

Why is the Summer discussion still so contentious? Forget sentiment, or feelings or personal perception. The STATS tell us this:

1. June was excellent overall - warm, sunny, dry. 

2. July was awful - cool, dull and wet. 

3. Depending on location, August was better than July but nothing more than average. For my location, SE England, it was fairly dry (aside from the first week or so), and temperatures and sunshine were close to average. 

4. The middle third, "peak Summer" period was very poor. End of June till about the end of the first week or so of August was cool, dull, wet. Statistically. 

5. Overall, considering the excellent June and OK second two thirds of August, the Summer as a whole was sunnier than average (away from parts of Wales & the SW where it was duller than average), for my location it was a little drier than average (for some other areas it was a little wetter than average, particularly NW England), and it was warmer than average (especially for W Scotland relative to the local average). However, this was primarily propped up by a recording breaking warm June. 

6. Summer 2023 was not anywhere near as bad as 2007 or 2012 or some of the other dire Summer's from decades ago - but it did have a pretty awful middle third, during traditionally the warmest time of the year. 

7. Overall, you could class Summer 2023 as "mixed", although memories for many will err on the "poor" side due to the timing of the bad weather. I guarantee you if we had an awful June but excellent July and early August people would look back on this Summer differently.
