Been fairly non stop since the early hours here. Looking at the radar, the showers just keep developing. I've decided to embrace it and go for a lunchtime run. I see tomorrows forecast, certainly in terms of outright sunshine, has been downgraded.

Luke from Crewe v Luke from Warrington tonight in the darts final. Given me quite a complex, although I think I'm going to plump for the oldie rather than the kid! So c'mon Luke Humphries from Crewe, like me an ex-pat from the south.

Rain finally stopped at 3pm after 30 hours or more, and just time to get out for a short bike ride before it got dark.

2010 redux??   I'm sure eyebrows will be raised at the MO. Cold weather alerts already in place for next week but we could well be on the cusp of a pattern that just gets colder and colder with short term features that offer snow potential. Let's get the cold here first though.

Yeah those uppers to the NE aren't too far off January 87 style. This is looking like a bitterly cold month across most of Europe. Look at these current temps as well from Scandi over to the Baltic, Belarus etc. Very cold indeed. It's just waiting for that trigger to surge west. And good luck @Kasim Awan hope all goes well and your recovery.

Yes agreed. This isn't over the top but a spell of years gone by is definitely a real possibility. If that high manages to reach Greenland, then the real cold and powder snow can head this way.

The first part of cold & frosty looks like happening now so that's stage one.....

It’s been very wet December and beginning to January… just soo damp & dull

A better day than yesterday, not that it would take much beating but mostly dry until mid afternoon when showers moved in and a couple of heavy ones came through after dark.

tomorrow not looking great before something drier and brighter appears in time for the weekend.

As for the upcoming wintry spell, likely to be colder but I’ll sit splinter free on the fence until I see snow falling outside my window.

Not the washout we had yesterday during today, but we had rain on and off this morning. It dried up a bit this afternoon. 40mm of rain so far this year.

Confidence now high for a drier spell of weather as we head into the weekend and into early next week, which will be very welcome.

25-1-1990 an awful lot of flood water gone under the bridge since then. 

 

 

 

These min temps I suspect are an under estimation, day on day cold surface pooling to bring severe frosts and daytime maxima struggling into low single digits briefly at best. 

Back today, another uninspiring gloom fest, apt for the 3 January.
