Joe Bloggs Could the shield be when the temperature overall drops. ie as it becomes snowier and colder in Yorkshire, colder over pennines then snow becomes heavier so releases most of its moisture before getting to us. That sounds rubbish doesn't it!!😆

Noting the forecasters and broadcasters emphasis on 'high ground' now, but I've never seen a definition of what constitues high ground.. in lowland england I think 200m, around these parts I'd say 400m.

Geordiesnow makes sense! However I have seen the shadow effect in operation in a 100% rain scenario in spring/summer so can’t be the full story.

I enjoyed the chase as much as today so not too bothered it’s raining.

Just not cold enough.

I’ll be amazed if anywhere in the yellow warning area ends up with 5cm

Ice pellets and snowflakes slushy deposits starting… grass and car… hills above white slushy… heavier precipitation heading up looking at radar… looking at roads clear atm snake/woodhead… gusty wind too 🌬️

It's turned a bit sleety in heavier precipitation so that's a positive sign for those with elevation. I guess it shows some evaporative cooling is taking place. I don't think it will be enough down here though.

Plain old rain. Even in Stoke it is raining. This really is a Peaks event only. People spend hours model watching in the thread bigging these events up and look at outcome yet again.

Still snowing moderately however the dusting has already melted off most surfaces. Not adding up to much and a poor snow event thus far.

Snow here still but its all dependant on the heavier stuff. Lighter bands bring a rise in temp and dp. Need something a little greener on the radar to get those temps down again.

Snow is struggling to settle here at 200m on anything other than cars and grass. On the photo looking north over the village, there's a definite line at about 250m, where snow is settling.

Sorry to say. But there may be an ever so slight amount of smugness from our South East cousins 👍🏻🙂
