How long can stuff stay in the fridge and freezer without electricity?

I'd say keep checking until the old man's nose goes white, then I think he'll be cold enough.

Some freight train gusts hitting here now,  expanded on Polar Martime's advice , & put dinner and heating on earlier just in case the power goes down , that said pretty resilient here based on previous high wind events... but you never know

What are your thoughts for the south coast? I was thinking 50 mph early evening, perhaps scraping 70mph at the peak later in the evening at Portland/St Catherine's Point?

I honestly don't know MWB. It's not going as I thought it would for this neck of the woods. lol

The UKV also suggests that it should be gusting to 55mph now, but we're a long way from that!

Models do seem to differ on the wind arrival times, ICON doesn't have notable winds arriving until 7PM for your area, check out Rafales 1H chart here. With Met Office warning not coming in force until 6PM wouldn't expect much yet.

Once the fridge is at room temperature you can put bottles of stuff outside overnight while it's still a bit chilly. Colder than indoors anyway.

Lights are flickering here SE Scotland

My lights flickered at 16:40 - the exact same time, that 73mph gust was reported on the N Cornwall coast

I was probably out in the 74, when I posted about it starting here.

I was expecting a red warning for Scotland's central belt at some point today but looks like that's not going to happen .

Fingers crossed that will mean less severe impact for us up here . Stay save everyone 😉 .

£10 power banks from Amazon are useful as a backup.

It's really a case of waiting to see if those 60-70 mph gusts forecast between 9pm and 1am for the central belt materialse. If they do then it was Amber worthy but if not then a yellow would've been enough here as the current peak gusts are only around 50mph.

Either there's a delay in this system, or wind speeds are not as strong as forecast for down here..

Was fairly lively here couple hours ago but a bit of a lull since as the rain moved through.

I'm glad I don't have to make that call.

They're going to be damned if they do and damned if they don't. TBH listening to the wind here (which is scary but not white knuckle scary) I would feel for any drivers who would have to work through it, never mind anyone who has to travel.

And I've said it before and will say it again: we do not pay NEARLY enough for our fish in the UK, thinking of the poor fishermen in this.

I would say so far, here anyway that the rain has been a much bigger problem than the wind . That's IMBY and I know it may get much worse later.

Agree. We don't have one as no space for one!
