Rain Lady aye it’s a typical double whammy for us, months of poor weather followed by paying the price for months of poor weather in higher food costs.

I was talking to a farmer friend checking his sheep yesterday and he said he’s never known the ground as wet and the grass as slow in growing.

Chris.R tell it to try a bit harder up here👍

A nicer day than forecast originally even some bright spells with rain staying to the East of the region. Next Bank Holiday weekends ‘warmth’ is looking like it’s being watered down already though sadly but milder than of late from mid week onwards.

Chris.R it’s reached Bacup now which thanks to Dr Beeching, is something the Irwell Valley railway hasn’t done since December 1966.

I’m just old enough to remember going on a train from Bacup to Manchester.

enjoy your stay in the valley and if you get chance, try one of the real ale micro pubs in walking distance of the station.

Yet again, just the slighest spit and spot of rain, but essentially dry. Another chilly one, maxed just about 11 degrees under a cold stiff wind. Sun trying to burst through.

Next week increasingly likely to bring first taste of proper warmth of the season, mid to high teens in any sunshine will feel very pleasant indeed. We also lose the risk of frosts. The last 10 days have been very frosty and stunted growth somewhat. May is around the corner and its full steam ahead growth wise hereon in. Great moment in the year with May and June (the best months of the year in all ways in my view!) beckoning and hopes of a good warm fine summer.

Cloudy and wet morning spent decorating, dry and largely sunny afternoon spent trailing around a certain large DIY store.

seriously thinking that the the first bit was the more enjoyable although at least the afternoon ended with a few beers in the pub.

Ventured into veg garden.  Oh my -- looks like a battlefield a year after the military left.  There's trenches still filled wth mud and could be some abandoned hardware overgrown with thick weeds and grass.   It is clay soil and where bare it's become thoroughly compacted havng been beaten by almost constant rain since last July.  A week's hot sun will turn it into concrete.

Milder start at almost 8°C, 7am.  Overcast, some dampness, not sure of a shower during the night.  Dry for now.

Its looking nice outside this early morning although there's rain inbound for later this afternoon, somewhat turning blustery with 50mph likely over the high routes during the next 48hr before a brief respite into Wednesday. Already the weekend ahead has the potential to be another wash-out again so i'm not holding out any hope on seeing long-spells of sunshine anytime soon.

Turned into a nice day yesterday with plenty of sun and no rain after an uncertain start. Today has dawned bright and breezy but possibility of a few showers later if yesterday's forecast is anything to go by. It does seem to be warming up a bit at last which is good and hopefully this trend will continue.

Definitely much milder this morning compared to recent mornings. Sunny to start, but has since clouded in with a bit of a breeze.

I'm not feeling much of a jump in temps this morning, but I think we will all feel a difference tomorrow! Finally some warmth is arriving.

Nice and bright this morning.
