  1. Good old Fergie, gotta love him. I might sound like a bit of a fanboy here but ain't it awesome that a Weather presenter from BBC local news actually visits this forum on a regular basis and shows an interest in what we ask him. It's not often you see that.
  2. Man that sounds painful Christmas day 2004 (i think it was 2004) was horrible for me at the time. I was only 16 at the time and I knew there was a chance of snow showers that day. I was quite excited because I hadn't seen snow on Xmas day since I was about 8 years old. I remember keeping an eye on the radar most the day and seeing the showers miss to our West by 20-30 miles all day long. Saw on the news that night that B'ham and a lot of the West Mids had an inch or 2 of snow. Was absolutely gutted!!
  3. Yep, I think that's the issue I have with Cheshire gap showers/streamers. They are too hit and miss and you have to pray that the wind direction is bang on. It's so frustrating to watch the radar and see a line of showers missing your location by 10-20 miles all day! Still, i'd take a Cheshire gap scenario over zonal Weather any time!
  4. For that to happen though you need a North Westerly. Straight Northerly's are usually pants. Cheshire gap showers can produce some good streamers but the wind direction has to be spot on for your location or you could see them miss you. When I lived up in Leicester, Cheshire gap showers often missed us to our West by about 30-40 miles. Occasionally we would be in a good position but there had to be a W/NW wind direction for that to happen. West Midlands does normally do well from a N/NW though.
  5. I have to admit, even though i'm liking the fact that the models are consistently showing a cold spell for the end of nxt week, it's not exciting me much. Northerly's usually deliver bugger all snow for the Midlands. The scenario we need is for the Northerly to turn into an Easterly afterwards, that would be best for us I think.
  6. It's 8c out there?! It feels bloody bitter out there. Feels more like 3-4c.
  7. GFS had an upgrade?! It's still churning out the same unpredictable crap at medium/long range that it did a few years ago!
  8. That blonde haired one called Rachel? Or is it the brunette?
  9. Feels really mild tonight compared to last night! And in reality, 6.7c is far from mild haha.
  10. I'd like her warm front to sweep across me to be fair ahaha.
  11. Who was that? If it was Anna Church I fully agree! She's smokinnnn as 'The Mask' used to say!
  12. it might have more of an effect if you say it sideways. Haha. Sideways is the new upright!
  13. That is incredible! The chances of the models showing very similar setups deep into F.I are very small. In the 10 years i've been following the models, I don't think i've ever seen that.
  14. An Abingdon avenger? it's where the Abingdon avenger comes out during a cold spell and turns invisible heaters on all over the town in an attempt to warm it up. He's like some mystical being that prefers mild Weather. He is also known to put massive fans into the sky to blow away potential snow clouds before they reach Abingdon.
  15. Aye, it's bloody chilly tonight! Took the dog for a walk and without meaning to be too graphic... It's that cold that I think his mess froze over as soon as it hit the floor :D
  16. Lmao! Well as long as he doesn't say that to his neighbour, he might still be able to get him to pay for a new one!
  17. Yeah I see what you are saying Ian. I think any potential positive sign towards blocking is clung onto by many people on here! I'm one of them as well because I'm also a big lover of snow. Don't worry, i'm sure people won't start blaming you if it doesn't come off!
  18. Thanks for that Fergie adds optimism to some of the glum faces reading this thread at the moment! Lets hope that blocking will occur within the next few weeks. Otherwise, we'll be needing 'Fergie time' to prolong the Winter. pun intended
  19. Ahh that would explain it then! Thanks for that. The head office of the company I work for is in Wallingford which is only a mile or 2 from Benson. I habe cycled through Benson briefly but never stopped there.
  20. I've never understood why Benson seems to be 2-3 degrees colder than other areas around it on a frosty night. I guess it must be a frost hollow where the Weather station is located.
  21. Cheers bud, it feels good to be back Yeah I often find that we tend to have a better chance of snow in Feb and March than Dec or Jan! I don't know if that is statistically correct, it probably isn't but my late Grandad used to always tell me that Feb was the snowiest month.
  22. I can tell you it's absolutely bitter here! I don't know the exact temp but 10 miles away in Benson it's -4 and i'd say it's -2 or colder here, everywhere is white with frost already.
  23. Haha! Gotta give it to you Tone, you don't beat around the bush! I agree, There is still 2-3 months left for a chance of seeing snow. I remember a few years back now when Leicester had 2 inches of snow at the start of April!
