  1. Nottingham is a fair bit further East though. The colder air is over the North and the Eastern side at the moment. So Nottingham and Leicester are still cold enough to see snow in heavy bursts.
  2. Wow! Some really impressive snow pics there we are due a dumping like that again!
  3. I seem to remember hearing about that 18th December 2010 event! In Leicester we got a good covering a few days later but I remember the 18th because The Enforcer said that even Abingdon had a good covering! Which was rare to hear, haha. I swear the lack of snow has followed me down here. I'm just hoping that Feb will bring something of note. My grandad used to always say "February is normally the snowiest month" so I hope he turns out to be right this year!
  4. Yeah it wasn't great but you're right, it does feel very cold out there! It's a real shame because had it been 1c colder, it would probably have been snow. Have you lived in Oxford all your life? If so, has there been any decent snow events down here? I only moved down here in Feb 2013 but in 2 years, the most snow I have seen is a sugar dusting. A Cadbury's one?
  5. Haha!! Well that turned out to be a load of crap. I thought I may see some brief wet snow from this heavy burst but it's rain with a very slight touch of sleet! Even the added height of Kennington can't help tonight Some of the houses around old boars hill are amazing! Gotta be some £1,000,000+ houses up there. You needn't look out the window to be honest. I can confirm that it is nothing close to being snow.
  6. Daaaayum. This really is a kick in the teeth. The heavy burst of PPN I mentioned earlier has eventually reached here. And it's rain with a hint of sleet. I thought I might see wet snow briefly but no! Even the slight bit of height, all 96m of it, didn't even help.
  7. You are joking??!! Down here in Oxfordshire the 1 bed flats aren't even that cheap! Cheapest 1 bed flat i've seen here is around £600. 3 bed semi, looking at about £1100 pcm. Might have to think about looking for jobs up there now
  8. I reckon the Matlockers should bugger off to the Yorkshire thread! Only joking I am jealous though. What are the house prices like up there?
  9. This is torture now!!! I text my mum earlier and said I thought she'd see snow tonight. Now she's texting me every 10 mins to update me on it! Her latest text was "coming down a lot now, road starting to go white and cars covered" She lives right next to the city centre so if she's getting this, it must be even better out in the sticks
  10. Good to see someone else local on here! The top of Boars hill must be quite high, i'd take a guess at 150m? Could well see some wet snow soon when that heavy PPN hits in about 10 mins!
  11. Not happy I'd like to be in a high part of Bradgate Park tonight! Are you a Leicester fan by any chance?
  12. Definitely some evaporative cooling taking place there. The Net Weather radar says just sleet for Leicester right now but it just shows, during heavy bursts it can be snow.
  13. Mum has just text me, snowing in Leicester and coming down fast! *not jealous at all*
  14. Some really heavy stuff on the radar incoming here. Should be here in about 30 mins. I don't hold much hope of it being snow but evaporative cooling could be a factor if it's heavy enough. Probably be sleet at best though.
  15. He's probably referring to Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. They saw a good 1-2 foot of snow from streamers coming in off the North Sea. While Leicestershire saw a dusting. We did get around 3 inches later on in December though.
  16. It was called off after a model inspection at lunchtime
  17. The December 2010 event? That was a corker for Leicester really. Had 3 inches of snow overnight that stuck around for days! Then Jan 2013, we saw quite a bit of snow again. I remember the Jan 2013 cold spell well because I was working as a Carer and cycling from house to house! A few times I nearly ended up on my backside but I remember we had snow on the ground for over a week and at one point we had 3-4 inches on the ground.
  18. As expected... Just light rain here
  19. Looks crap for Oxford tonight! I think we will miss it by a matter of 40-60 miles. Still got a month and a half of Winter left though! Hoping we get some good snow in Feb.
  20. It's looking good for Leicester tonight! I'm going to be envious though because it looks like i'll be about 60 miles too far South here. We'll probably get a rain/sleet mix while Birmingham, Leicester, Notts and Derby get a covering
  21. No idea why i'm still up right now. I don't start work till 4pm so I figured I could just sleep till midday! Anyway the 00z run... Well, it's certainly upped the PPN amounts for a start. I honestly think that quite a large area of the Midlands will see snow from this. As I said earlier, above 200m and you have a great chance I reckon. Even low ground has a decent chance on the 00z run. I wish I was going to be back in Leicester tomorrow night though! I think Leicester is in a good position to see a covering from it. It's late and my eyes are being kept open with toothpicks, Tom and Jerry style but i'll go ahead and make a prediction. I think Birmingham/othee areas of West Midlands. Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire will all get snow from this. Amounts will vary and any areas with a bit of elevation will do better, as they always do in marginal setups. I expect the Met-O and BBC to issue weather warnings regarding this tomorrow. If they don't, i'll be very surprised.
  22. Happy Birthday! I'm keeping an eye on how much snow you guys are experiencing across the pond there in Ireland and Northern Ireland. At the moment it seems there is more snow around than rain! Which hopefully is a good omen for when the PPN reaches Central England tomorrow night.
  23. Just had a look at one of those. They do look pretty decent to be fair!
