Pleasant and predominantly settled, but without any spectacular warmth. These factors combined with some cool nights leads me to go for 14.2c.

I would love to predict a below average CET the third in a row, however I am going to play cautious and say 13.9, only slightly above.

As many have stated it will be the night minima particularly earlier in the month which will have a great bearing on ensuring that we don't record a moderately above CET. I don't think we have any chance of recording a record breaking CET or even a high CET.

I expect a fairly dry month, and as normal conditions likely to break down around the autumn equinox. It is going to be a very pleasant month all round and very seasonal just how I like September to be. We will get the dry suny pleasant days but the early morning mists and dew will make for that autumnal feel.. Ooh I can't wait the descent into autumnal mellowness starts soon...

The most important thing longer term is that it will not be a month dominated by low pressure, mother nature has a habit of balancing herself out and I think the autumn on the whole will be quite dry helping to allieviate the real fear of further widespread catastrophic flooding..

Sea temp anomalies around UK

- warm-cool to the West

- cool south

- cool north

- warm East (North Sea)

I'll add +0.5C to my CET prediction.

Perhaps this is the month for greater continental flow? Recent Autumns have been quite good. However latest ensembles do not look spectacular, and as we get into the month nights get longer, and it will get harder even with good weather to reach a very above average CET month.

14.4C (+0.7C above average)

Fairly warm period from say 6-10 like I mentioned a while back. Now will the HP nudge ene and allow LP to crash over southern UK or will it split and HP to our wsw feeding in NW'ly dominate. I forecast a very wet latter half of Sept with predominantly average to cool conditions balancing the month CET out.....so 13.9c for me

Having been away for quite a while, I'm trying to catch up with what's been happening.

August has been a surprise, I have to admit. However, it does look as though September is going to have a settled and quite warm start, bucking the trend of the past few months but reverting to type for the last several Septembers. The first two weeks look pretty settled (in the south at least) and will be pleasantly warm. If the southerlies appear, it will be warm at night too so a warmer than average start looks more than likely.

The second half of September is the key. I can't see it cooling off dramatically even if it does become a little more unsettled so I am going to plump for a warmish month.

14.7 for September for me please. Thanks.

Moose

I'm guessing it'll be a generally quiet month, at least until around the equinox, with slightly above average temperatures overall (OK - I predicted above average for August too B) ). Let's say 14.3.

Biding my time on this one. Very very hard to tell what's happening with the high, which could determine the first 10 days.

On the other hand, Mrs WIB is in for the c-section tomorrow so I might forget to post. If I do then 14.9C for me please as a temporary guess pending proper analysis in the next day or so!

A Warm start but the CET will fall away later in the month.

Overall a dry and sunny month - but no late heatwave.

The run of cooler months to end but also the run of well above average September's to end.

My punt 14.2C

I may adjust my figure before the deadline........and if I do it will be down. 3RD below average month anyone :) The warm spell/interlude may not be as warm as initially thought ie maxes of 22 rather than 25+

Very best wishes to Mrs WIB and yourself. You might find you have less time for analysis in the future, but all for the very best of reasons!

After a terrible August prediction from me, I'm going to stick my neck out (for a change) and mark this September as the one that stopped the below average CETs. 15.2 for me, please.
