With Christmas fast approaching it's time to open up a thread for people to record their predictions for the first month of the new year. 1971- 2000 average for January is 4.2C.

Won't be making my bet until at least the 29th but I'm hoping it is the coldest month of the winter, february has stolen the limelight in recent years..., hoping january will redeem itself this year.

A bit early, but I think January 'may' be the most interesting month of Winter this year. Will give my CET estimate next week.

atm i would go for 4.9c but before the end of the month i will probably change it,nearly every Jan these days is above average but maybe this yr will be closer to average so i might bring my guess down a bit nearer the time

I don't really like this having to get it in early to maximize potential scoring, but I'll do it anyway: I suppose I can always change it at the last minute if something extraordinary builds on the models next week.

+4.7oC

(A potential problem with the new scoring system? You'll probably get more people changing their guesses after putting in an early punt.....a nightmare for those trying to list them.)

I like the look of the Arctic and Siberian Highs on GFS, and I've been punting way too high recently in general. So I've plucked up the courage to go for a relatively cold 3.5C :)

May change this slightly on the 28th or 29th, but my prediction for the January 2007 CET is 4C, 0.2C below average.
