Which school Paul? There are loads closed on the BBC Essex site. North st/rd is closed

Fairways Primary In Leigh, all open and tbh with only 1cm on the ground I have had deeper Frosts :)

Still dont quite know what happened here last night, just to show how amazing this event is with Stu London reporting 45cm in C London and we get 1cm (Incredible and Amazing) I will NEVER Say that areas East of London will do better in an ENE Flow ever again.

Walking to work we have actually had only about an inch, maybe a tad more, despite 12 hours and more of continuous snowfall. pPeople at work are saying west suffolk saw 4 inches or so. My eyes are now firmly on later this afternoon for some proper heavy stuff.

Not many people posting from Norwich last night and today. I would say the reason is: we've only had about half an inch! Main roads totally clear with a slight covering on the side roads.

Does anybody know why Eastern Norfolk is not having snow reach it? There is plenty of North Sea around us (is it that: we stick out into the relatively warm North Sea? Prob not otherwise we would be getting rain). Places just North of us seem to be catching it, places West getting something like a 'Wash Streamer', places South getting what look like good 'lake effect' type showers moving in from the North Sea, and London and S.E. getting battered by the Thames Streamer. But Norwich - the merest hint! We've got loads of distance across the North Sea from Holland / Denmark so why (next to) no snow?! :)

Mind you I suspect that within 5 hours or so we will be catching that blob moving up from France pretty bad! :)

By the way, been a lurker for about 3 years and love this site: learned so much from it. Well done to all experts, mods and support people that run this site!

I've got the faintest feeling that areas around me (well, most of the SE) are going to get a proper spanking later.

Phoned work and said I wasn't risking it, but may try if it clears a little. Now changing that plan....I know where i'd prefer to be stranded out of home or work! :)

Have had the same my end of town mate. I'm not overly optimistic for later on, can see it quite quickly turning to sleet for us due to our proximity to the sea.

Yes - I can back this up - phenominal fall of snow - easy level foot!

SS

Actually on that bin it does look like you are pushing a foot...

Amazing scenes over most of Britain this morning :)

It just goes to show what can happen with the right synoptics and with more snow to come today this could go down as even better than 1991 in terms of snow depths. :)

i said that to work too. i would genuinely like to go in today as have to prep for a meeting tomorrow. however half an hour walk to the only open tube station for miles when there are no buses or overland trains doesnt really fill me with hope - still less when its windy and snowing like mad... and depth over the boot tops! not often you can say that in inner london.
