got some good turning with height, and jet speeds the further west you head - well, looking at gfs anyway - I dont know how much of a handle its got on this situation. If we had something like the oklahoma mesonet / spc mesoanalysys we'd have half a chance of having a clue lol

must say I wouldnt be suprised to see a rash of storms break out right along the south tonight though ... come on storms! we dont ask for too much!

The line of storms appears to actually be the cold front itself, whats happened is that the surface low has caused a wave in the cold front, causing the Northern section to stay stuck out West and the Southern section to begin swinging Northwards. Looking at sat the air behind the storms is clear of instability, and looking at a Brittany webcam earlier it seemed the skies were pretty fresh looking, (if you know what I mean), so expect these storms to clear the air somewhat I think, the cool air is making its attack Northwards from France rather than from the West, as has been the case a lot this year. :D

im learning im learning lo.l Had to read that at least twice quite complicated. Normally follow the forcasts/maps but confusing tonight. Do you think this will all reach herts or are we too far inland ?

not exactly a supercell compared to the SE storms tonight, but over the last 20 mins, that pimple of shower over the welsh borders, has turned into a dirty great blackhead of a cell!

Yip, got me eye on that. Seems to be heading this way. Wednesday morning's storm popped up out of nowhere at 1.30am so you never know, could be lucky again.

Any chance of those channel storms keeping strength enough to reach Herts?

I'm surprised already by how they've kept strength over the channel. Looks like some show soon for the south coast!

Hmmm just put the lightning detector overlay on the N-W radar and theres LOADS of strikes in that heavy PPN off the South Coast and also the PPN near Kent!
