Five flashes of lightning witnessed by me to the south-east. Also heard a rumble of distant thunder.

A few days ago, I specifically stated that there would be a notable risk of thunder-snow today.

I cannot believe the temperature fluctuation in our region. I was very briefly up to 0.8c and 30mins ago was back down to -1.8c now back up to -0.6.

The 'snow free streamer' I am in looks to be closing up. i expect more showers after midnight.

sunderland looks likes its getting a whipping.

I've seen 4 flashes of lightning to my SE, most frequent I've seen in a thundersnow event.

Was even lucky enough to get one flash in a photo, I'll post it soon.

Our lass also reckons shes just seen some lightning in Consett. Why doesn't this show up on the lightning detector part of the site? As I say, I'm brand new to the site.

Had some heavy snow and heard thunder, then a few minutes later had 4 blue flashes within 2 minutes, very impressive for thundersnow. I am in Peterlee, Co. Durham.

Looks like Soutra and Carter bar are blocked (A68), by looking at the traffic cams....http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx

That does not supprise me with the amount of ppn they have been getting this evening.

Also looks like snow is about to hit central London.... By morning the papers will turn this into the snow event of the century....London Snow!!!!

Is it me or is the precip in the north sea off scotland starting to head more towards our region now?

Yes, but its also developing in the gap between the band in the north and band to the south. I think everywhere on the East coast will see snow at some point tonight

Where did you hear this? No service problems reported on their website. :)

Apparently the folk at my sister's workplace said that hence why they got left home earlier. As i say though, bit surprising considering we have seen worst snowfall than this before. Probably more like reducing the service rather than canceling all trains.

Anyways, any little thaw there was has stopped now and the ice on my window sill is starting to stick again which always tell you, the temperature is nothing to worry about at the moment.

Wind will pick up by tomorrow morning from the sea however this will come with lower dew points and slightly colder air so i don't think this will be too much to worry about. I'm more concerned about PPN but the 18Z shows that the frequent snow showers around the borders should be around here. We shall see.

Yeh I was just wondering where the detectors are located that feed into the site and what sort of range they have.
