-5.7°C atm, a bit of cloud cover from a nearby shower rose the temp a little for a while but we're plummeting again now.

That's looking better than I expected. It seems to show that the Pennines won't completely take the sting out of the showers which is good news. Looks like 'Nowcasting' will be key in this case

Though that only predicts the position of precip were it not to die out, it doesn't really take that into account I don't think.

The current radar shows showers possibly moving from the n-e into our region as we speak...

Showers just drifting to the south of my location at the moment.

Obviously though from a purely observational point of view its either the ppn or the clear skies and low temperatures that I would prefer. The cloud cover will keep those temps. up - in fact here it is now -5.2c from -5.3c. We will have to wait and see what happens I suppose. smile.gif

our next chance of snow will be when the easterly picks up, its looking even colder towards the weekend with a renewed blast of -10 or lower 850's from siberia.
Did you notice on Look North they said they were expecting temperatures in rural areas to drop as below -20C over the next few nights?!

Can't see there being much in the way of snow until Sunday, however I think the main emphasis is now on just how cold it will be. Wouldn't be surprised to see somewhere in the region record temps as low as -15!

-4.7c DP -7c

nice low pressure developing out to the east, people in scotland thread were toying with the idea it would hit further north than forecast...

i think it will turn sharply to the south

and it looks like low pressre to the north of scotland developing...

Woodford reporting -8.8!!......that's a drop of 4.5 in an hour!

That station is almost certainly buried in snow, theres no way the temperature can go down 4.5c in an hour, take no notice of it. :unknw:

-4.4c is warm compared to what I think my minimum will be.

I think -9c is a high possibility.

-4.6c now.

I've been watching that as well and wondered when someone with some knowledge might mention it! If it develops more, do you think it might throw some precipitation in our direction?

www.wunderground.com

That will have a nearby station giving you a rough, but accurate temperature reading!
