Heading back to Tipperary Friday evening so I can hopefully catch some of that snow that's predicted. If it doesn't make it to ground level, a trip up the Galtees may be a good alternative.

Surprised nobody is really talking about the snow potential we have this weekend...

Possible snow on Saturday for some part sof central Ireland, pretty good agreement between the models on this occuring, where about exactly gets the main snow is a little unsure still but certainly the risk of 2-5cms, though much depends of course on the exact time of day it will arrive at, during the afternoon hours any snow probably won't settle.

I think Friday night and early Saturday morning is looking best for Ireland. Over 10cm in some areas I reckon.

After that it becomes a bit more marginal as far as I can see, at least for the south

Tomorrow night looks like more widespread snow for a time. Monday will have to be watched carefully. The models are gradually transferring the track of that system North. The East and South could well get hit and even the rest of the country if I read the UKMO right at 96hrs. Interestingly both Britain and Ireland want a different track here. As the models are pushing it further North gradually milder air comes into Southern Britain - but their loss could be our opportunity! Watch this space...

Agreed.

Interesting week ahead with lots of potential. With this complex low pressure system sitting over us and extremely cold air sitting tantalisingly close to our north east, we only need a few small things to fall into place to give us some serious snowfall.

Met Eireann have issued a weather warning with rain tomorrow turning quickly to sleet and snow as it pushes East tomorrow evening/night

Issued at 19 February 2010 - 11:00

Weather warning

Further scattered wintry showers today, mainly over Ulster, Connaught and West Munster, becoming confined mainly to Munster overnight.

Staying cold and frosty over the weekend with more accumulations especially later Saturday evening and overnight Saturday - 2 to 5 cm possible over lower ground and 4 to 8 cm over higher ground - southern half of country most at risk.

Tonight GFS 18z for County Down is sponsored by the letter ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

No precip, until T+141, so the boring dry winter of boringness continues.

This mornings 0z had a snowfest for Northern Ireland, this 'event' has disapeared. Another great piece of modelling by the left trouser leg poor GFS.

Roll on Spring, rant over.
