Cold will continue at least till the weekend - and after a few days of ever so slightly warmer temps it's looking like we will go back into the freezer again

Upper air temps on the latest NAE still remain low:

http://expert.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2010/01/10/basis18/ukuk/t850/10011218_1018.gif

So the front runs into the cold air:

This is great for Snow. GFS 18Z now has a snow event also but it goes about it a diffrent way (rain to snow)

NAE goes all snow

Is it possible on Tuesday we'll just get loads of heavy snow that won't settle?

heavy snow settles 99% of the time unless there's extremly warm ground temps

this recent cold spell has not been your standard (ie like the last 20 years) winter cold spell - it's been a lot more severe regarding the cold so this means tuesday to wednesdays event will have a good chance of dumping a lot of snow in wales

I thought that during post-Christmas event too but it all went to hell.

18z NAE looks good. Big snow event for S and W Wales.

18z is a bit more marginal, rain to snow event. Lots of precip though.

We have another staller folks so we have tonight`s snow coming from the east, then more light snow tomorrow but dieing and move NW then a lull before strong SE winds gales in the SW making it feel bitter and more heavy snow coming in the that continues that night into wednesday then dying a death against the block.

Dry day next day with a cold east wind so yet another very busy week to come.

The GFS still wants to pull up the warmer upper air temps for tuesday:

http://www.wetterzen...cs/Rtavn482.png

However as we get in to wednesday and a more easterly flow kicks in the warmer upper air temps are forced out:

http://www.wetterzen...cs/Rtavn602.png < upper air temps

http://www.wetterzen...cs/Rmgfs603.gif < Heavy Precipitation

GFS 18z gives a rain to snow event here in South Wales, better than all rain!

With the embedded cold ans s easterly dragging cold air off the continent

and the heavy precipation causing the dewpoint to fall the precipation will definately be snow cant see how rain could fall.

anybody got a time around when the good stuff hits our shores

dont want a late night for nothing like last night

It's really developing now but!!!!!! it's moving wnw - I think within the next hour definitely mid wales will see some more heavier snow and I think the back edge of this front may well give some snow to south wales also
