Dec 23rd is a very good comparison actually. Like that one there will probably be a slight thaw overnight and a substantial thaw tomorrow daytime.

I think it will freeze over night. My temperature is dropping.

The band made it further North than I expected, moderate snow here.

yeah, and you are around 15 miles to my north, still going strong here 1 inch, very thick covering on trees, bushes etc, snow started here at 3pm ish, started sticking at 5.30pm

just rain 23m lower in town centre at least 3 till 5pm, town may have snow now

Had nightmare journey home tonight from Sillyhull to Banbury.

Normally takes 50 minutes, but took over 2 hours due to the heavy snow.

As usual no grit on the roads as the councils prefer saving money than having safe roads.

No snow at all here in Banbury, but a few miles north on the M40 it was snowing before arriving home.

Not even 1 cm here.

Absolutely dreadful event yet again. The ground is far too wet for the snow to make any sort of accumulation possible.

The shocking winter for Derby/Notts looks set to continue.

Heavier bursts developing on the eastern side of the western potion of the frontal system between Worchester and Coventry. The front should soon start moving W-E as the LP pulls away towards London and Essex in the next 6-9hrs. This should drag the front eastwards and just gotta hope it doesn't weaken too much.

The NW and SE part of the front will be the strongest part of the front due to the thermal gradients involved, inbetween it looks fairly light and will likely stay that way or even weaken a little further. Those who get the stronger part of the front could yet get another 3-5cms.

Mate, when you've finished with it, send it my way, thank you! :)

The snow really is quite something out there at the moment.

Somehow despite the radar showing the lightest form of precipitation over us for the past two hours it's kept snowing lightly and steadily, though considering it's took 8 hours to give a dusting im not expecting much more.

So Northants might get ultra lucky. At the moment the heavy snow is coming from what I'd guess you'd describe as a cluster of showers AWAY from the main front. Now if the front itself decides to take a more easterly route then in theory we could lose the showers but then tap back into the main band.

Win win!

Hellooooooooo!!!!!!

Well, today event!! Was at work in Loughborough today, rain and drizzle to start around lunchtime (and think there must have been some freak hail event overnight because there were huge clumps of ice this morning that look like someone had shattered glass everywhere!!!) Andyway, about 3pmish it got sleety, then snowy, untill big chunky flakes started to fall just before 4pm.

Made my way home about 4.30 to Long Eaton and arrived to rain :)

Took dog for a walk, in sleet :)

And now...........small flakes of snow gradually getting bigger for about the past hour or so!! :)

Not settling yet as the ground is too wet, but hope it stays snowy at least untill I go to bed!!! (oooo that rhymed!!!)

And guess what- 4 hours of snow here and nothing settled at all, unless you count 2mm of slush on some cars that melted as soon as it eased off. This town beggars belief the way it constantly misses the best snow- yes the roads were wet beforehand but that didn't stop it settling elsewhere? If the timing was wrong for the west of the region why the report of 4cm in Gloucester (that's much lower than here too!)? And the intensity wasn't bad for an hour or so, temp went down to 1C during the heavy bursts yet it still wouldn't even try to stick to the grass. And even 10 miles west of here where it's often colder nothing was sticking either, despite heavy snow at 1C.

Why don't they build all the airports they need around here, they'd never get closed by snow (best stay away from places near the river though due to flooding and fog)? The region could do with the jobs if nothing else.

Same happened here last night, 6hours of light-moderate snow that didn't settle and this was at night. Now it's snowing lightly and settling on all surfaces.
