Yes New york, is about the same Latitude as Spain, actually, 40degrees North, compared to the Uk of between 50 and 60 degrees North! Ex hurricanes often come across the Atlantic during this time of year sometimes stalling in Mid Atlantic and giving us some very warm conditions, or as in the case of Ex Hurricane Charlie ,in Late August 1986 which gave us torrential rain/Flooding and storm force damaging winds! Looks as though Irene will producing us some unsettled conditions this time next week. according to the models, but things at the moment are far from sorted!!

Watching live feed from Atlantic Beach in North Carolina at http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/cvplive/cvpstream2?hpt=hp_t1

Families standing there with their young children at a place where it's supposed to hit in a few hours, madness.

According to Jeff Masters on Wunderground, in his latest blog update just now, "Irene's eyewall collapses, further intensification unlikely".

"The highest winds measured at their flight level of 10,000 feet were 125 mph, which would normally support classifying Irene as a Category 3 hurricane with 115 mph winds. However, these winds were not mixing down to the surface in the way we typically see with hurricanes, and the strongest surface winds seen by the aircraft with their SFMR instrument were just 90 mph in the storm's northeast eyewall".

Maybe not going to be as bad as thought 24 hours ago.

No, New Orleans is barely above sea level.

The risks will be more from wind borne debris in New York.

Is it just me finds webcams mostly ridiculously frustrating.

I looked at a couple which refused to load for some reason, then one did appear to load but showed an image from 2001.

If that was my site I'd remove the 'visit our wonderful webcam' link when it didn't work anymore, because it makes the owner seem clueless.
