Who thinks we might see a gust of up to 60mph this afternoon then?

Strongest winds later this afternoon into the evening, Northern Ireland, South West Scotland, North West England look like having a pretty rough rush hour this evening with gales funnelling down the North Channel.

There were gusts of close to 70 mph from a few stations along the coasts of Wales a few hours ago. Mumbles Head I think was one of them.

Getting to gale force here now, with gusts hitting 40mph, steady moderate rain and hopefully more of these days to come this Autumn!

If it is moving along from here you are likely to get much higher gusts soon, we have had a few gusts up to 57mph this morning and sustained winds of 40mph. I hadn't realised Brighton wasn't getting it so badly as here.

I am really surprised that CHIMET is showing higher gusts than ST Catherines point on the I.O.W as that is usually the highest for this area.

Southampton too have had a few trees down and at least one at Thornhill blocking a major road.

Edit, Winds dropping here now to a more normal F8 gusting Force 9 so I am off out.

IOW:

Motorists visiting St Mary's Hospital this morning (Tuesday) were diverted because of a fallen tree. Drivers were redirected to the rear entrance, on Dodnor Lane, after the tree blocked the road earlier this morning. The Council says a large branch has also fallen off a tree in Clarence Road, Ventnor. The branch is blocking the left-hand side of the road in the Ventnor to Wroxall direction.

People trying to get across the Solent this morning are having their journeys disrupted after a number of routes have been suspended due to bad weather. The Red Jet Hi-Speed Service operating between West Cowes and Southampton and Hovertravel from Ryde has been suspended until further notice. Meanwhile Wightlink car ferries between Yarmouth and Lymington are running a revised timetable. Ferries from Lymington will depart at 25 minutes past the hour and from Yarmouth departures will be at 30 minutes past the hour. Travel operators have apologised for the inconvenience.

I don't know if my road is protected from the wind, but I felt it was more blustery yesterday than today.

Just a dull, wet autumn day so far here in Bexleyheath.

There seems to be a squall line developing, presumably along the Cold Front, heading slowly ESE stretching from Devon, through the Bristol region

and towards the South Midlands.

I've used the 11.00 Met Office radar update for that positioning, unfortunately with the NW one being delayed I can't say it as it was just 10 minutes

ago as I'd usually have done.

As usual with squall lines from this direction heavy rain cells will be moving ENE along the front as the front itself heads ESE.

The cold front is more active in the S.W. recently, awful visability here, skies brightening a bit now.

Winds look to have already peaked, although they seem to be picking up slightly here. A station just off the South East coast is reporting a sustained wind speed of 47mph. Now that's intense!

Terrible morning - fingers crossed the worst is over!

I must move up the road to billingshurst... You always seem to have more exciting weather.

A gusty day here but biggest only 28.4 mph (a one off at that)
