To beat the October Record Temperature, it needs to surpass 29.4C, which was the highest October temperature for a single day on 1 October, 1985. It's going to be close that's for sure, what I like about this heat - it's drier than the stuff we had in June, it's not moist and horrible. It was 34*C in June with humidity around about redicolous level.

SO October record could be beaten???

It was quite humid here earlier, was 25c with a dewpoint of 17c most of the afternoon but the air has definately turned much drier this evening.

GFS went for 22/23c today here so almost 3c warmer than progged, it seems the ingredients are there for Friday to be the peak, perhaps 27c here then.

Yes its very pleasant out there still and very warm in my room. Windows open and fan on tonight. Never thought I would be doing this Late September/Early October!!!

Today was warmer up here than any day since July....I don't think it is too much to describe today as a truely amazing day!!! The 28th September should not be warmer than the whole of August!! Superb! :):good:

The sort of summer's day that I remember from childhood till mid-20s (age). The sunshine was unbroken, and it reached the mid-20s (Celsius). If only I hadn't had to work till 7pm/sunset- that's September heatwaves for you!

Anywhere that's not in the southeast getting above 20*C is an achievement in itself since 2003.

1600 Hotspots (Met Office)

26.7C Gravesend (SE England)

25.8C Church Fenton (Yorks and Humber), Linton-on-Ouse (Yorks and Humber), Northolt (London)

25.7C Hawarden (Wales), Pershore (W Mids)

25.6C Shawbury (W Mids)

25.5C Coleshill (W Mids)

25.4C Leeming (Yorks and Humber), Waddington (E Mids)

--

Yorkshire is boiling and has been throughout the day - but Gravesend remains on top. It should start falling around the nation now.

As we start a new day, which stations are off and running? Some of the big players are still shrouded in mist or still quite cool after a clearer night, so won't appear until late morning.

0700 Hotspots (Met Office)

19.0C Skye Lusa (W Isles)

18.5C Altnaharra (Highlands)

18.2C Keswick (NW England)

18.0C Trawsgoed (Wales)

17.7C Carlisle (NW England)

17.6C Lossiemouth (NE Scotland), Prestwick (W Scotland)

17.5C Tulloch Bridge (Highland)

17.4C Kinloss (NE Scotland)

--

Only space for nine as 17.2C has 4 entries. All the spots that I have just shown are cloudy, apart from Trawsgoed, in Wales, I expect 26C to be breached not only there but in many spots.

Potential Hotspots (Met Office)

13.9C Gravesend (SE England)

12.9C Heathrow (London)

11.4C Northolt (London)

12.9C Pershore (W Mids)

11.8C Shawbury (W Mids)

12.5C Linton-on-Ouse (Yorks and Humber)

Quite - but don't be shocked if it doesn't reach 20C over there, under flows like today's - diurnal ranges keep low over there! Expect it to be in the bottom ten by midday or so.

20C at Skye Lusa at 6am, with places like Altnaharra and Tulloch Bridge at 18C. Interestingly some of the areas you would expect to be the coolest. blink.png

Very nice here yesterday with unbroken sunshine and a max of 22C, slightly cooler than some due to the breeze from the coast. Probably 1-2C warmer where I spent the day.

Over 18C for a while after sunset yesterday evening, then fell to a min of 12.0C this morning and clear and rather hazy. A station slightly over a mile away not in the valley is 3C warmer at 15C.

I'm amazed that Atlanaharra is at such a high low, considering it's usually the cold spot in winter!

That is either yesterday's or an error - all the temperatures in NI are between 16c and 18c with cloud.

10am will be more conclusive as to where the hotspots will be - at 9am Altnaharra's 19.8C is the warmest due to the Highlands fohn effect and overnight cloud - by 10am, fog and mist will have cleared in the usual hotspots and we should develop the real picture.

I won't be able to format the hotspot lists properly as I'm on my phone this afternoon.

Now will the NI October record fall this weekend?

4th October 1959 at Ballykelly, County Londonderry and Hillsborough, County Down

also 10th October 1969 at Portadown and Lurgan Cemetery, County Armagh and

8th October 1995 Moyola, County Londonderry

The 27C is false, it should also remain mostly cloudy across NI today - I can't see 23/24C passed over there at all.
